Patagonia Capilene 3 Bottom - Women's

Gear up for cold weather with the slim-fit Patagonia Women's Capilene 3 Bottoms. Patagonia made these fast-wicking midweight base layer bottoms from 64% recycled honeycomb Capilene 3 material for morning ski tours or any aerobic workout in cold weather. A gusseted crotch allows for easy striding on your cross country skis, while a contoured cut and brushed surface make for comfortable layering. Patagonia's Gladiodor antimicrobial coating keeps the smell down for multi-day hut trips.

Bottom Line: Work hard without working up a sweat while wearing the Patagonia Capilene 3 Bottoms.

Me Likey

I wear these ski touring and they keep me warm on really cold snowy days. I love them! They might be a little too warm for touring on blue bird days.
I also wear them on my resort days and they keep me warm all day long.

One Size Large

By:
September 16, 2008

I am 5'5" and wear size 4 pants so I ordered small. It still is big for me (on the calf-area) but my husband says that maybe it will shrink a little after washing.

Other than that, this is perfect. Unlike others, the waist doesn't go as high as your ribs so you can still wear this under your low-rise jeans. The fabric is soft and smooth and my silly hubby thinks it's sexy. ;) It is warm and comfortable. Highly recommended!

The Best

By:

Patagonia Capilene Bottoms are superior to any other base layer I own. I love Smartwool, but the wool is too thin and snags easily, especially as a bottom. Capilene is durable, and doesn't stretch out nearly as rapidly as wool bottoms. You can wear them for multiple days in a row without needing a quick rinse, and they look amazing. I wear them casually all around town, and if you're looking for thick leggings that you can't see through...these are your best bet! They're incredibly comfortable, and are perfect for almost any aerobic activity. I use them at the gym, as well as hiking, skiing, working and just lounging around the pad. They're toasty through Aspen winters, but don't make you sweat. A definite must have in my book!

I don't find them very long. They aren't very long. I'm 5'7" with a 32" inseam and they come up well above my ankle bone. They are a good fit, not super tight in the waist (for us gals that are a bit chubby there), and they sit a bit lower on the waist as well. I'm very happy with the fit.

I heart my long underwear

By:
January 28, 2010

These are amazing. I've owned long underwear too thick, too thin, too big, too tight, too wrong. These are absolutely perfect. Living in Northern Minnesota they fit the bill as something to wear underneath jeans, snow pants, cords, anything. I wear them walking to school/work, and they are comfortable to wear all day long without getting too warm. Walking the dog = perfect. X-ctry skiing = maybe too warm (but I have lined snow pants) I generally wear size 4-6 pants, size small in these are just right. Added bonus = fabulous plum color.

Very comfortable, I cannot even feel that I am wearing them, and they definitely keep me warm all day.
I usually wear under ski pants and it doesn't make you look bigger...

Pretty good, not quite what I expected

By:
December 9, 2008

Waist sits a bit high, not for lower-rise women's pants. The review I read saying it's low-rise probably refers to the older version that is darker blue. Also, not very stretchy, so I feel a bit immobile and there's lots of friction when putting on or removing pants over it. Otherwise, really warm and breathable and high quality. I wear them everyday.

Define "you." If you're talking about Patagonia, then the answer is "no." They make capilene, and wool thermal underwear. Both are vastly superior to cotton in regards to heat/cool regulation, moisture, durability, and odor. If by "you" you're asking whether or not the site carries cotton long undies, then the answer is--I think--"no." Almost all long underwear bottoms are wool or a polyester of some sort for the reasons previously stated.

Review Title

These are great - they do get warm with significant aerobic activity. But they are the perfect layer for hiking. Allows you to go with a soft shell pant and stay plenty warm (even down to 29 degrees with some wind) like today.

Great, warm underlayer for cold day hikes

By:
December 20, 2009

I wore these pants as my baselayer under my (very) thin hiking pants for backpacking in Haleakala Volcano, in Maui. We were pretty much above 6000 feet all the time, and when then sun went down, the temperature was around 40 F, but the pants kept me warm during the whole trip. They are not just warm but also very comfortable. I got for my money exactly what I wanted.

Capilene 3 tops/bottoms

By:
December 29, 2008

Capilene 3 tops/bottoms for women make a perfect base layer for outdoor and even indoor wear when temperatures are forty and below. I had to work hard to find the L/XL sizes. With them I don't have to worry about feeling cold any more. They wash fine in cold water, and dry quickly on a hanger. Don't want to ruin them in a dryer. Owning two sets saves me from buying extra outer layer clothing. Thanks to Patagonia for making them, and for Backcountry.com for their terrific sale price.
