Patagonia Alpine Guide Softshell Pant - Men's

When you’re squeezing the last few days out of your climbing or skiing season, the Patagonia Men’s Alpine Guide Pant is you uniform of choice. Perfect for alpine rock routes or spring corn runs, this softshell pant features a durable, stretch-woven polyester shell that resists wind and water. The brushed lining stays comfortable next to your skin, and the gusseted, zippered cuffs come with tie-down loops. When you’ve put this pant through the ringer, send it back to Patagonia to be recycled through the Common Threads Recycling Program.

Bottom Line: All-around alpine coverage for your bottom half.

Quite Simply,

By:

I purchased these pants several weeks ago for a fall hike that I since completed at Ricketts Glen State Park in Pennsylvania. Did the well-known Falls Trail with them on, and they performed quite well. They are extremely comfortable, insulated, water resistant, and kept my legs warm. (I have a pair of comparable Arc'Teryx pants which I also really like, but these were almost half the price!) I wear a 35 waist, but the 36 proved too big (no half sizes), so I exchanged them for a 34, which worked just fine with the stretch waist. And Backcountry was great in exchanging them for me, no questions asked.Patagonia makes awesome gear, and these Alpine Guide Pants are no exception.

How adequete are softshell pants( any brand) fro skiing? Am I

How adequete are softshell pants( any brand) fro skiing? Am I just going to get soaked if I ski in softshell material instead of ski pants? The reason I ask is because I'm a huge fan of the material, but I don't ski often and was just wondering.

The Alpine Guide Pants are designed as a backcountry ski and mountaineering pant. They breathe really well and still provide good protection against wind and water. They're a great ski pant for all but the wettest conditions.

Best pants I've ever owned

By:
December 9, 2008

I got these on sale and was absolutely amazed at how well they performed. I lived in them for several weeks in Alaska, doing everything from salmon fishing, dogsledding, glacial travel, to drinking brews in the local bar. I'm sold on softshell pants, and am always happy with patagonia gear. And with patagonia's "ironclad" guarantee they are guaranteed for life. Also, patagonia is an environmentally responsible company and it's great to see a company that makes cutting edge performance wear and does it responsibly.

How are these pants for cold weather heavy aerobic activities?

How are these pants for cold weather heavy aerobic activities? Say peakbagging in snowshoes at 0 to 10 degrees F? I hate overheating and am on a quest for the perfect pair of winter pants. I've got uninsulated TNF Freedom pants but find them too hot most of the time when I'm on the move. Do these pants breath well and make temp regulation easy without stripping or adding layers?

I think you'd be very happy with these pants in the conditions you mentioned. I wear mine in a lot of different conditions and they breathe really well while still protecting from the wind and wet.

Just Right

Been wearing bibs for 14 years during the winter months when training up here on the Kenai...got a pair of these and can't believe it, swinging Koflachs at least four hours a weekend is so much easier in these. They are THE ticket.

Amazing

By:
December 22, 2008

Wow. These pants are great. Fits me well. Used it for rock climbing in -2 to -10 C temp with a mid weight base layer and they were comfortable on the move as well as while belaying. Also used for snowboarding in -23 temp with the same base layer and it was water and wind resistant. I did not get wet even after sitting in the snow a lot to strap on my bindings and did not get chilled on the lift. I did put a small hole on it though. Not sure how I got it (probably while knee jamming a crack) so durability could be a question mark. Other than that, these are amazing do most anything pants. Even wore it in my climate controlled office and still was comfortable in them. I most definitely recommend these pants.

great fit

By:
November 21, 2008

The main reason I bought these pants is the fit. All the other brands I tried (Arc, MH, & OR) on fit me in the waist but were way too tight in the legs. These fit in the waist and legs pefectly. Compared to the other pants on the market they are a great value also.
