Holy Slim Fit!

I'm a skinny guy, but even on me these things were form-fitting. I needed a more loose fit, so I returned them.

Actually true to size

The 32 I received had a 33 inch waist, which is perfectly reasonable breathing room. In true cargo style, they were by no means form fitting either. Some things are relative (like someone's assessment of themselves as a "skinny guy"), but the measuring tape I used to measure the waist of these shorts is standardized, so if you're in doubt, take your waist measurement before ordering.

but Backcountry.com has such a great shipping policy (free on most orders), and hassle-free returns and exchanges, I wouldn't sweat too much over any reviewer's assessment of sizing.

My new favorite shorts

Yeah, bought the Portena Camel color in a 34 (typically I wear a 33) and the fit was perfect. The velcro closures on the cargo pockets work almost too well - you have to hold the shorts down to open the closures! Material is lightweight and the cut works well for me.

weird fit

To start, I bought these a little bit large (a 34 instead of a 32 [I prefer a 33]). They were way big in the waist, so I figured that a belt would clear that up. Nope, the way the beltloops are designed the belt didn't really hold up the shorts all the way around, and there are weird sag areas.
