I keep an e+Light clipped to the back of my harness, along with a Tibloc, short prussic cord and a knife. I consider these things essential to bring on every climb. I had a client not bring their headlamp on a climb recently and I said, "no worries" as I unpacked my pack to get to my harness with the e+Lite attached. The light is surprisingly bright for its size, has several settings, including a blinking setting. It obviously doesn't put out like the MYO-XP but it is plenty functional to get you where you need to go through the dark in a pinch. I like its protective case (mine is all scratched up from chimneys and rock climbing but is still functional and water proof). Good to have in your pack as an extra light when backpacking or even in the glovebox of your car for that "just in case" moment.

ok so i do a lot of backcountry adventures. this light is so lite that it's a must in the pack for any adventure where there is even the most remote chance of getting stuck out past dark. after my last adventure i've decided to just take it all the time i have a backpack on - period. why not.. it's not even an ounce! it's enough light to run trail with if you are desperate. not enough to run it well, but enough. it's so small it's just great. perfect too for camping and reading in a tent, etc.

for me this light also makes it into every race drop bag just in case, etc.

Can't beat it for what it is. 27 grams of EMERGENCY light. that's it.

As an ultralight backpacker, I'm looking for the best bang for the weight and buck. This little Petzl light has a great feel to it, weighs even less than my single LED lamp and comes in a carry case (optional use) that is the size of Tic Tacs. With 360-degree swivel head and several light options, this little guy is perfect for a primary camp light. Don't let the name "emergency" fool ya!

I love this lightweight headlamp for everything but trail running. It's just not quite bright enough for moving quickly down the trail. Having said that, I always carry it as a backup to my Tikka XP, just in case.

Great for emergencies,just do not forget that it is in your pack it is so small.
Good as a reading light when you are camping!
It might come in handy if your bigger light blows up! Would not use if you were climbing a peak for hours on end!

As an admitted flashlight freak I am always on the lookout for something new and different. The e+LITE certainly fills the bill. Much smaller and lighter then other headlamps it takes up almost no room in a pocket, pack or vest. It may not put out as much light as bigger headlamps but its light output options, good battery performance and size make it a very nice "just in case" backup to take along. The red lite option is great for preserving night vision. Batteries are small and a couple of spares are hardly noticed in a pack or pocket. Easy to use and it leaves hands free. It is also a great item for those fisherman who like to fish at night and need both hands free. It does what it is supposed to and I cannot think of much to criticize. The design is also quite modern and clean looking. Great value for the money.

I keep one of these clipped on the band of my main headlamp (Princeton Tec Apex Pro) as a backup navigation light and rear-facing position signal (the red strobe works particularly well for this). I haven't used it very often, but it's been clipped up there for a while now and ridden out some nasty weather on the top of my head and still works perfectly. It's not exactly a high powered spot light (surprise surprise) but is plenty bright enough for basic night navigation and camp tasks. Makes a great backup light, and is bright enough to be a primary headlamp for you ultra-light types (but you'll probably need spare batteries for more than a night or so).

I've been seeing a lot of photos from the Vovlo Ocean Race with crews sporting this light. The round the world race on carbon fiber 70ft sailboats is a place where ever gram matters.

Absolutely brilliant in more ways than one. Weights next to nothing , very powerful for it's tiny dimensions and waterproof too.

Very pocketable, and my 3 year old loves running around with this on his head when it gets dark.

I got the first one as a sample a while back, as the name said, I thought this would be an emergency backup light, so I kept it in my "go-bag". One day my wife took it out and used it for short night time hiking, and we discovered how effective this light is! The only downside is the type of battery they use, it's costly and may not find replacement easily in some place / country, this only keeps this light as "back-up" rather than my primary. But hey, I got a few already and still ordering more!!

this is the only light i used on my '08 appalachian trail thru-hike. it was perfect for the occasional late-push to reach camp and for all my nightly chores. i used it sparingly and never changed the battery in five months! i'll be using it for my pct thru-hike this summer.

This is awesome light. saw it at a show a few months back, and I've been waiting for it. I keep one in my commute bag (never know when next blakout takes place), the other one in my emergency evac bag, and leave one at office. Light works great, and weight almost nothing.

Small, lite and Bright. Great for trail running. With it's small size and lite weight you don't even know it's there.

I agree, the eLITE is a great ultra-light, general purpose headlamp for lightweight backpacking or for stashing in your ten essential kit on dayhikes. I've also used it on late afternoon runs to increase visibility. Just cinch up the headband to fit around your arm or around your waist and turn it to "flashy red light" mode. The eLITE is also just plain cool-great gift for anyone that likes nifty design.

This is the perfectbackup light for almost anything. I have several....one as a backup to my TACTIKKA for military use, one in my truck for the random emergency (works well for changing tires in the middle of the night), and one for my backpack. It's so light, there's no reason not to carry it.

I bought two of these hoping the light would work as a primary backpacking light for weeklong+ trips into the Sierras (extra batteries are small so their weight is negligible). I like the design of the light, but the output is a little less than I had hoped for. I backpack with my wife so I think we will carry one of these and one higher output light.

As all Petzl products, this little headlamp is great, lightweight, great quality, and cheap!

This is the perfect headlamp for any backpacker. Why carry the extra weight when you can have a headlamp with 4 different settings. I love the red because it doesnt ruin your night vision after they have adjusted to the dark. The protective case is also nice and very light. In my opinion it is the best on the market if you are a light-weight backpacker.

Simply amazing!!! This little guy is awesome. Why in the world this would be a "backup" I have no idea. This is the only headlamp I carry and the only one I've needed. It hasn't failed me once and has tons of great features, and all for under an ounce and <$30. Can't beat it with a stick.

Super light weight, fantastic amounts of light, a very secure lock and a night vision saving red mode; I've gone back for seconds! I don't give 5 stars, and I give this light all 5.

Lightweight, long battery life, bright, versatile & efficient

I agree with the last reiew, this is my primary light. Plenty bright for night hiking short distances, great versatility. Brightness, color, and strobe control in an ultralight package. My only complaint would be the control lever can be a bit tricky when it's on your head, but i still love it. My favorite feature is the veritile mounting options and range of movement. One strange thing; on the petzl website it says that there is an integrated whistle, but mine does not have it.

this is my main headlamp. and it has served me well. Backcountry is awesome offering it for 20% off. My advice grab one you'll love it. My other advice is when you order it get the spare batteries on ebay it was like 8 bucks for 25 of them when I made my purchase long ago and I still haven't made a dent in my collection. I give them to friends on b-days and I'm always sincerely thanked. Its a great lamp plus you wont feel like a coal miner any more. I wish there was an extra star for this item it truly deserves one!

I use the Petzl e+LITE Emergency Headlamp as backup in case something happens to my MYO 3 Headlamp. A lot of advantages make Petzl e+LITE the best travelling companion. I like the firm and reliable carry case. Nice lighting and variety of modes. But not enough for running and quick descending.

So small and light I often forget it's in my pack. Love this thing when I'm finishing a climb at dusk and have to scramble down class 4 terrain to the car at dusk/dark. Light, bright, in a word, tight.

Wow! A great light in a small package. I gave them as gifts for my mother who lives by herself and my sister who travels a lot. Then, because of their raving about them, I had to get one for myself.
Lightweight, wonderful storage case, and phenomenal light for the size. Supposedly has a 10 year shelf-life, too!

I got this on a super sweet deal and it is awesome. This headlamp isn't just for emergency uses, if you want to go light it can be used as your primary headlamp. On the bright setting it shoots a 60m beam and it only takes 2 watch batteries. It is also great to put in a tackle box because it is so small and it has the red light settings to help save you night vision. If you are thinking about getting this, don't think just get it.

this is a great lamp. it really doesn't need to be used as an emergency lamp. you can even use it to read with in bed.

Emergency ues yes because of it's small size and long life but, it's nice to use as a camping reading light in the tent. The red light setting is very nice to have. It is very light weight, well made and has its own waterproof/floating durable plastic container. The replacement batteries are small watch like and weigh nothing. Very comfortable to wear.

This light puts out a tremendous amount of light (or less, is adjustable), is comfortable and easy to use. That being said, I think it truly is an “emergency” light only because I don’t think the ball/swivel used to aim the light will hold up to much use. I’ll definitely keep it in my day pack but if I planned on a lot of use I would carry something else with a heavier duty harness.

This thing is the greatest product since sliced butter. I bought 5 of them for gifts after purchasing the first one for me. It weighs so little that when running with it on your head there is no bounce. It's waterproof which makes it perfect for a backup light in my pack when adventure racing, but also perfect to leave in the car for that late night flat tire...8 years from now. 10 year shelf life on the batteries is amazing. Buy millions, give them as gifts and you will be a hero.

My son just loves this very bright, compact unit. It comes in a protective case so he keeps it in his motorcycle pack for emergencies. The headband is very comfortable.

The e+Lite is a great little lightweight headlamp. The red LED is nice for preserving night vision. The head can be mounted on a hat with the clip on the back and can be rotated up/down and 360deg. Great for someone who does not hike at night much and needs a very versatile, light, water resistant, rugged, and multipurpose headlamp or backup. When not on the trail, this is going to be in my emergency preparedness kit!

I use this as a backup while caving and for walking to and from the country pubs. Great output, better than some caving lights. Really handy clip so you can use it on another light's strap or on it's own. I bought 10 spare batteries online and I don't think I'll ever get to use them, I'm still on the originals after a lot of playing with them. Not fragile either, I'm a clumsy caver!

Not the brightest light but the weight and size are brilliant and the intensity of the light was fine for doing everything needed around camp. Great value for money

For minimalist hiking this can not be beat. The weight of the light and a couple spare coin batteries in the first aid kit is less than most light headlamps with out the batteries. I went on a 3 day trip recently. I used the red LED for most purposes at night. It was nice not to blind my friends when I looked at them and it was plenty of light to cook with. The full blast white LED light is more than enough for navigating around at night or checking the trees for bears going after the Asiago Bagels.

If you do ANYTHING outdoors you should have one of these! This thing is not just for emergencies, it will light up the whole campsite. Fits in a case the size of a pack of gum which means it's perfect for backpacking. I'm so happy I bought this, and you will be too!

So I won this head lamp at a climbing comp and used it all the time. I liked it so much that after it was stolen from my campsite I bought two more. This thing is SO light and super bright, (considering the size), and it's a must for camping. It works well for night bouldering and you don't even notice it's there. bottom line... I LOVE THIS HEADLAMP!

Wicked light, Wicked bright, and you can clip it to a hat, or your tent window flap, or your buddy's pack. Great as a backup or lightweight alternative. A must have for all mountain folk.

I like how small it is and how simple it is with using the watch battery style batteries. The strap on it is great because of how low key it is. the options for different lights is way cool too because you just flip the switch rather then pressing a button 4 times to get the setting you want. I use this ALL the time! It would be great to put this in your glove compartment if you have to switch out a flat tire at night. The size is amazing and the case it comes with is super nice to have. It packs a ton of power with such a small size.

This light is great, really small, has multiple light settings including strobe for if you are lost in both white and red light.
