The Petzl Elios Helmet provides an excellent combination of lightweight and durability for all types of climbing. The polycarbonate shell and impact-absorbing form liner make this a great choice when you need a helmet that lasts but don't want to feel like you strapped a brick to your head. This well-ventilated helmet has clips for a headlamp and can be used for everything from sport to alpine climbing. Adjust the Elios to fit over a stocking hat with a single wheel in the back.
Bottom Line: The lightweight, low-profile design of the Petzl Elios Helmet makes it comfortable and easy to wear on the rock and in the mountains.
The reason for the return on this helmet was that the back tightening knob began to disfuncion (it would no longer hold the track to keep the helmet at the selected head size). I absolutely love this helmet, am using them for my programs, and this is the only issue I have had. I do not feel this is reflective on the brand or helmet type. This tightening device just was dysfunctional.
This fully certified climbing helmet is very lightweight and adjustable -- perfect for adventure racing. I either wore or carried mine around for the majority of the 500 mile Eco Primal Quest Expedition Adventure Race.
I display a goat on the front of this helmet with pride!
I was instantly impressed with the great fit of this helmet. The size adjustment range is broad. The helmet retains a solid feel while not weighing you down. not too shab.
The size 1 helmet fits well (my head is 21 in. and my boyfriend's in 22 in.), but it looks like it is too small. I know I shouldn't be so trivial when it comes to protection but it is borderline funny looking. On the subject of durability, I have not taken any crashes with it yet so I cannot speak to that. Bottom line, it feels good on and I feel safer using it.
Just used the helmet on a 4 day canyoneering trip in Zion. It worked great. I have a small head, and I am prone to migraine headache, so I need something not too loose and not too tight. Elios worked great. Nice and comfy fit, I forgot I was wearing it. Nice protection all around, nice drainage after the canyon pools and easy to adjust on the flight.
I bought the helmet to go wild caving in. It obviously performed its job. No bumps or cuts on my head as opposed to one of my arms that came out quite bloody. The main reason I bought this particular helmet was the ease in which one could mount those strap-mounted head lights to. In fact, I was able to get mount two sets through with the built-in clips. I will now modify it by drilling some holes through the top to mount another set of lights for future caving. The chin straps kept the helmet on very tightly and was adjustable from a wheel in the back. Due to these features, I highly recommend it for caving, repelling, etc.
This helmet is probably excellent for climbing. We bought it to cover a wound for just everyday use. It didn't work for our purpose, even though we bought a knitted cap for underneath the helmet. Guess we need one from a medical supply store.
This is a great buy for a beginner or advanced climber. For the beginner, it proves to be one of the more affordable climbing helmets. For the advanced climber, it proves to be very lightweight. On top of that, it's also a versatile lightweight durable helmet -- it does it job well!
For the price, this helmet is a great value. I have used it for rock climbing and in alpine climbing situations - it is very lightweight and won't weigh down the pack! It is easy & quick to adjust, even with only one hand available.
This helmet takes the comfort and adjustability of the classic Ecrin Roc and leaves the weight behind. It easily adjusts with one hand and doesnt move around on your head on once adjusted. Its plenty light for sport and alpine climbing, and the headlamp clips are very easy to use.
