POC Synapsis XP Helmet - 2007

POC's Synapsis XP Helmet uses a semi-hard shell design to absorb large impacts from botched cliff drops and cartwheel crashes on big-mountain lines. POC made this helmet for skiers who won't even consider a binding with a DIN less than 12 and who tend to ride helicopters more often than ski lifts. The POC Synapsis XP Helmet's large hood-scoop style vents keep your head cool whether you rip a steep chute or session a terrain park.

Bottom Line: The biggest lines and the biggest drops call for the POC Synapsis XP Helmet.

close as ive seen are padded hats made by R.E.D....they are essentially beanies with some supprisingly heavy duty padding in them...they offer NOWHERE near the protection of a helmet but are almost better than wearing nothing. youd have to just google "red padded hat" cuz i cant find any on here besides this RED0102 (copy into searchbar, hit enter)...honestly no form of soft protection can ever come close to the protection of a hard shell helmet. and carrying the helmet from your car to the lift might save ur life someday, theres even a convienvent way to carry it...on ur head! :-)

Fashion, Fit, Function - and Tunes

Since I can't say I've crashed yet in this helmet, I can only say that I was attracted to this helmet because it fit my oval shaped head better than the Smith, which feels round. Aside from that, it looks pretty good on a small head. Definitely great to get out of the black, bowling ball look. Will enjoy the brim this Spring. One other thing - ear phones fit nicely into the shaped ear pieces, but because of that, this helmet would not be my choice for storm riding.

Great design, but expensive!

I was a little hesitant about spending this kind of money on a helmet, but I'm not disappointed. It only has two small vents, but I never get hot even when hiking. My favorite feature is the visor, which pivots back and allows you to put your goggles on your forehead. POC are supposed to be the safest helmets too, hopefully I will never test that feature!

well, sure, you COULD wear it kayaking...or to dinner, or while playing poker...but that's not what it's made for. Skiing, biking, climbing, and kayaking helmets are all made for different sports, and have different attributes that are specific to those sports. Granted, any brain bucket is better than no brain bucket in any crash, but a lightweight foam helmet designed for a single bike crash won't deal with breaking tree branches the same way that a hard shell ski helmet will, and a hard shell rock climbing helmet won't be as warm as a ski helmet, and a ski helmet won't drain/dry as well as a kayak helmet, etc. Sure, it'd be great to spend $100-200 on a single all-sport helmet, but I'd recommend biting the bullet and buying sport-specific helmets--after all, even at $200 each, the right helmet for the right job is still cheaper than a brain injury.
