POC Lobes Goggle

It should be no surprise that the POC Lobes Goggles use a cutting-edge spherical lens to eliminate optical distortion. After all, they look like something Doc Brown would wear in the De Lorean. Whether you use the Lobes Goggles for skiing, snowboard, or time travel, the dual polycarbonate and cellulose propionate lens eliminates fogging, even at speeds up to 88 miles per hour. POC designed these goggles to provide excellent peripheral vision, so you can spot the landing when you come around on your 720 and see what's going on outside as soon as you open the gull-wing doors.

Bottom Line: Back to the Future or up on the mountain, count on the POC Lobes Goggles.

It kind of depends on your glasses. I have Oakley frames, and they are a wide square frame, which only fits under goggles after some modification to the foam. It isn't hard, just a couple slits and it'll work. If your glasses are fairly small framed, then these should work. If not, try and find a designated OTG goggle.

The last pair of goggles I buy

By: Backcountry.com Vendor Rep
November 3, 2008

I first got a pair of the Lobes back in early 2007 and since then I've fallen in love with them. After 80+ days of use, they still perform like they did on day one. As long as you don't remain stationery for too long, they do not fog up. In fact, I have yet to apply any additional anti-fogging cloth/liquid to the lens. First thing you'll notice is the super wide peripheral view which is probably the widest offered of any goggles on the market. After much abuse, the lens has minimal scratching and I honestly couldn't be happier. The Lobes will certainly be the last brand of goggles I buy unless Poc finds some way to improve a near perfect product. One thing to note on the negative side is that the inner orange-colored foam peeled away after about 10 days, but this didn't affect performance or comfort.

All the lenses are mirrored (names are blue/silver mirror, pink/silver mirror, champagne/silver mirror, etc.). The degree to which you can see inside usually depends on the amount of bright light present (more light=more reflective so harder to see inside, less light=less reflective so easier to see inside). POC lobes

By:
January 2, 2009

What’s better then than 3 Swedish women comforting each other in a sauna on cold winters night?

Nothing, of course...

However the Lobes goggle from POC aren't to shabby.

Not only do they make you look and feel like you’re at the helm of an f-16 fighter jet, but they actually stand up to the test in all elements.
With these lady killers your turning heads all day, while not having to turn your own to see what’s going on. The Lobes give you unprecedented peripheral vision, making stealth missions easy to accomplish.

As well as protecting your eyes and much of your face from snow, ice, rain, headwind, tree branches etc - and naturally also assisting your vision in different light conditions - POC have worked on optimizing the field of view on all goggles. Research has shown that simply increasing the field of view allows you not only to see better generally, but to perceive details in your peripheral vision. This in turn speeds your reaction time. All goggles use a cellulose propionate inner lens to optimize anti-fogging properties, and in the case of double lenses, a polycarbonate outer lens for durability and a penetration resistance. All lenses are anti-scratch and anti-fog treated

If you haven’t heard of POC or been gobsmacked by a hot Swede sporting a pair, read on.

POC is a Swedish company committed to revolutionizing the quality and degree of protection of helmets and body armor purpose-designed for alpine skiers. We are achieving this by using the very latest high-tech materials and design techniques developed in close cooperation with world-class injury and safety specialists.
Lobes are our newest ski goggles, with a huge lens to optimize the field of vision. The inspiration comes both from Swedish architect Sigurd Lewerents, who puts his windows outside the facades, and from astronaut Neil Armstrong. The lens of Lobes is a perfectly shaped spherical surface to minimize optical distortion.

They just make ya wanna rip!

POC Lobes, sick goggles.

You should be ok. If you're getting a goggle gap, pop in that removable liner that came with the Baker. My Dragons (DX) fit perfectly with my Baker and have no gap, but I would need the liner if I wanted to use my Spys.

These are fairly flat up top, similar to the Smith I/O's, and fit nicely with a Giro say. With the curvature, try the Oakley A-Frames, they have more of a curve on the top, and might give you less of a gap.

Pink Lenses

By:

The Lens: The pink lens is the best low light/ cloudy/ snowing/ foggy light lens I have tried. If you haven't used a proper low light lens, let me tell you, the difference is night and say, so to speak. I skied with them at Baker for most of last season. Clear depth perception in foggy conditions. My previous low light goggle was the crowbar with a high intensity yellow lens. These may be even better, but both are top of the line low light lenses. I didn't notice a problem on brighter days, but a darker lens is recommended for full light. I highly recommend the pink lens for cloudy to foggy days.
The goggle: Great big field of vision. The edge of the frame is only noticeable in the lower half, but still plenty of vision. Not at big as the Electric EG2, but bigger than the Oakley Crowbar. (The Electric EG2 looks like a cheaper made goggle to me, but I can't be sure) Fits with my Giro nine helmet quite well. I haven't had any fogging problems in about 20 days of skiing pow, but it sounds like some people have had problems. I love mine, and recommend these goggles.

periffs are superb, but if your cheeks make the goggles sit high on ur face, then ur always going to have a problem with downward vision, cuz you look down and see frame...the only thing that will make downward vision better is a lower profile frame that doesnt stick out a foot from ur face, and these are pretty low profile so they should do you pretty good

These gogs are awesome. I had to get the special edition ones and I splurged but they are worth it. The pic in my profile is of them.

They work really well on bright days. In low light you are going to want to go with another pair.

Its fun to see people just stare at you wondering where you parked your F-15.

My goggle use is with a snowmobile helmet--sort of motocross style--and I use this combination nearly every day in Arctic Alaska where I live. Great goggles - scratch easily

By:
December 1, 2008

I bought these at the start of last season. They allow great peripheral vision and rarely get fogged up when used with a helmet. The one downside is that they scratch very easily, partly because the lens is the first thing that touch ski edges in lift lines, etc. After waiting & searching for a long time, I was able to buy two replacement lenses online as I love these goggles.

Goggles to wear.

By:
November 24, 2008

Took these goggles out for the first time this weekend and the field of vision on these are remarkable. I saw the landings and jumps easier with these goggles. The glare from the snow was signicantly diminished without the overbearing yellow tint. The only thing about these goggles that took some getting used was for me the fact that they sit lower on my cheeks and nose then others I have had. Overall these goggles have the ability to go the distance.

Great lenses, above all these are the best looking goggles i have ever seen. Note that buying the goggle case would be a solid move considering that they have so little frame they may not stand up well to a ture beating.

Of the ones on this site, the blue lens have the best VLT at 38%, which is not very good. There IS a clear lens for the Lobes according to POC's website (called champagne here), but it's got a silver mirror that cuts it down to 45%. To be honest, none of those is very good for night riding, but those are your best options. Other goggles, like the Smith I/O you so ironically dismissed the other day, have a truly clear (84% VLT) lens designed for night riding, but not these.

DARK. They are for bright sunny days. And on those bright sunny days I still keep another pair in my pack. Later in the afternoon, when the sun dips behinds the peaks, or is low enough to cast a lot of shadows, you are going to want to go with goggles with less tint in the lens.

I have gotten countless compliments and everyone seems to want to know were I got these. I have these paired w/ the Smith Hustle helmet and the integration is seamless!!! Replacement lenses can be found at ski-depot.com and the Pink lenses are the best for low/flat light conditions, contrary to previous reviews. The Champagnes are OK, but man up and get the Pink if you want to see in poor conditions(I have tried all the lenses). If you want attention and beautiful piece of equipment, get the POC Lobes!

Jay, I checked the POC site and they rate the Pink lenses as 20% on their VLT scale

Here's the info from POC
VLT (Visable Light Transmission) is a measurement that specifies the percentage of light coming through the lens and reaching your eyes. A totally clear lens for dark conditions typically have around 90% VLT and a very dark colored lens with mirror for sunny conditions may have down to 10% VLT. Most allround lenses will be found between 30 to 60 %.

That means , in their words, the pink lens aint no good for flat light!? I love the look of the pink lense so I'm going to have to try it out for myslef, like you have!

According to POC, their best rated Lobes for poor light are the Yellows at 63%

By:
January 5, 2009

I've been hooked on Oakley since I can't remember when until POC came along with the Lobes. They're super sweet! They provide amazing clarity and unreal peripheral vision. I'm stoked on them. I've got the black w/ mirror lenses and they do great on sunny days and decently well in flat light. Just take care of the mirror lenses since they do tend to scratch pretty easily. The goggles are pretty big on your face but that provides an excellent field of vision. If you're in a toss up between these and another pair just do it and get these. You weren't be upset. I never thought I'd buy anything other than Oakley until these. They're sick!

I bought the Lobes after reading all the rave reviews here, and I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. First, I love the massive field of vision and the optics are really crisp. I have the black frames with the green lenses and they are good even in flat light. I like the look too. Now the issues. I live in my gear during the winter and these barely lasted me 2 months before I traded them back for my beat up Crowbars. The lenses do scratch easily, but so do all goggles. My biggest complaint was the fogging. With no outer frame to keep moiture out, as soon at you take a spill or face shot they start fogging up. Any snow on your hat/helmet that melts ends up dripping down your lense and it drove me nuts. These are great goggles for cold days with not a lot of new snow. I'm torn because I loved these at first, but they didn't deal with the elements that I needed them to. Better luck next time.

Ya, everyone asks about them thinking they are "Electric" or "Smith" 'cause the newer styles have little or no visable frame. Noone knows where to get 'em cause they are made Sweden. I purchased the green lens and is fine on cloudy days with around 18% VLT. If you need more light go with the blue lens which is around 36% VLT. On sunny days i'd rather be wearing my Oakley Juliet sunglasses 'cause of the dark tint but if you need some serious tint go with the black lens or buy it as a replacement lens. Also they are advertised as having more peripherial vision but I found them to be the same as Oakley Wisdom goggles. Anyways, they gets lots of looks, stares and questions. Tend to fog up like any other goggle, with conditions equal.
