Patagonia Micro Puff Hooded Jacket - Women's

The Patagonia Women’s Micro Puff Hooded Jacket features extremely warm and compressible PrimaLoft One insulation that doesn’t lose its insulating powers the moment it gets damp. Patagonia stuffed this synthetic insulation inside a wind- and water-resistant shell made from pop bottles and unusable or worn-out polyester garments. Quilted side panels give this regular-fit jacket a feminine shape, and articulated elbows ensure that you can plant poles or swing an ice axe comfortably. When the weather gets really nasty, pull up the helmet-compatible hood for protection. Patagonia included a stuff sack for easy packing.

Bottom Line: A better use for that soda pop bottle.

I want to buy this jacket for my wife... is it compressible enough to layer under her patagonia guide jacket softshell??

Its at most as thick as 2 thin fleeces. If her jacket has enough room underneath for that then she should have plenty of room for this as long as you get the proper size.

This is absolutely my go-to jacket for almost everything! I use it regularly backcountry skiing (climb in a t-shirt or light layer, ski down in the micropuff) and it's the perfect amount of warmth to prevent rapid cooling when you stop, but not too hot to ski down in. It's also a great summer layer for wilderness trips, with the added assurance that it can get wet and still insulate (unlike down). To top it all off, it's stylie :-) I'm 5'7" with athletic build and the M fits best.

Patagonia Micro Puff Insulated Jacket

I was kind of hesitant to get this jacket based on the flat picture above. I wasn't sold on the criss cross design, but I loved the blue color, so I decided to go for it. I'm so glad I did! I have barely taken it off since I got it. It is so light you almost forget you have it on. It moves with you very easily, is super warm, and is beautiful! The color is a deep, rich blue and the fabric has a bit of sheen to it. This jacket could very well become my everyday, go to jacket. I'm 5'6", 135ish and the medium is a little big on me, but I like being able to pull my hands in the sleeves and having room to layer.

Would you recommend this Jacket more that the Down Sweater Jacket

Would you recommend this Jacket more that the Down Sweater Jacket for every day wear? I am looking for a good warm, every day Down Jacket.

Caroline,
Both jackets are great and offer similar warmth, but the Micro Puff might take the edge and be slightly warmer. Both have a recycled poly shell w/ a great DWR coating to protect from wind and water, what sets them apart is the fill on the inside. This is the first year the Micro Puff has had Prima Loft, which is amazing synthetic insulation. Warms up like an electric blanket when you get moving, and keeps you warm even when it gets wet. The 800 fill power down in the Down Sweater is some of the highest quality down, and is the most comfortable and versatile insulation offered.
