Patagonia Rain Shadow Jacket - Women's - 2007

Wear the waterproof breathable Patagonia Women's Rain Shadow Jacket to alpine climb, ski-tour, or hike in spring. Made with a relaxed fit, this versatile jacket goes over fleece layers for a day in the snow. Wear your head protection of choice, whether it's a skiing or climbing helmet, while staying dry under the Rain Shadow Jacket's rollaway hood. Stop cold weather in its tracks with adjustable wrists and drawcord hem. If you get hot hiking a ridge, open the Rain Shadow's Underarm zips to get the air circulating. Zippered pockets let you carry snacks and sunglasses where you can get to them quickly. Patagonia designed the Rain Shadow to be packable and lightweight, which makes it a great companion for foul-weather fun.

Bottom Line: Stay dry in your Patagonia Rain Shadow Jacket when the rain comes pouring down.

Pata's version of PreCip

By:
May 30, 2009

Great jacket. My GF has this and we've pitted them both against each other to see which is better, because we are dorks and have too much time on our hands, and they fared equally. This is 12oz and the PreCip is 13oz, so they weigh almost the same. The cut is similar to the PreCip. etc.,etc. Great jacket, but for the price, get an, I don't know, PreCip.

Great versatile jacket

By:
December 18, 2007

This is a great jacket if you run. Its a good fit (I am tall and took a medium, and it fits my arms and covers my hips very nicely and is slim enough to look fashionable). Its well water proofed and worn over a fleecy jacket, makes it a warm and dry combination thats good for a cross country run in cold weather.

I will be Alaska for 2 1/2 weeks day hiking and fishing everyday. Is a 2 layer rain jacket enough for Alaskan downpours or should I go with a 3 layer?

I've been perfectly happy with my Rain Shadow through several rain storms from the Oregon Coast to Costa Rica over the past few years. no need to spend the extra money on a 3 layer as long as you're buying a high quality 2 layer like this one.

RAINING AGAIN!!!

By:
January 8, 2007

I purchased this rain jacket for my mother and she damn near snapped when she saw the price....but...she went out to "test" it before her two weeks in Ireland and Scotland in April, and she called me right away to tell me how great the jacket was...This miser and penny pincher (known as Lynny the chinz) finally came to the realization...you get what you pay for!!!

A quality rain jacket

By:
October 17, 2008

I got the daffodil colored rain shadow on a sac deal and wasn't so sure about the color but when I got it that was all unnecessary. It's a pale yellow and I really like it. The jacket fits true to size; I am 5'6 and got a Medium. For a rain Jacket, I find the fit pretty flattering...with still enough room for layering. The inner mesh pocket is a good feature to have, especially when traveling. I took this jacket on a backpacking trip to south africa and it worked out great. We had a bunch of rainy days at the cape and it kept me dry. The pit zips prevented overheating (they could have a mesh liner but I guess that would make the jacket heavier...). This way it is pretty light and bunches up well in a pack. The taped zippers feel very solid and keep the water out. Really happy with this purchase.

i have a patagonia red (cranberry kind of colour) and it is longer in the
back i believe it is a rain coat. I am looking for one the same. I paid i think
350-400 for the coat. It was expensive but i dont see one like that on this email
Let me know if i can still get one. It is a bit long over the bum style.
Thanks Cheryl

I purchased this jacket to take to Alaska on a cruise. It was perfect. It is lightweight, completely waterproof, and the hood was great in the rain. I was very glad I had it; I wore it every day.

The sizing chart on this in conjunction with my tape measure

The sizing chart on this in conjunction with my tape measure says I am an extra large - I usually wear a size 8 to 10 so I am wondering why I am suddenly a size 16 extra large. I weigh 127 lbs and I am 5' 4". I have recently gained about 5 lbs. which I intend to lose - my normal weight is 122. Do these jackets run small or something? This is freaking me out..... I mean I gained a bit of weight - but size 16 - X-large???!!!

Nah...I am 5'6 and 140lb...also usually wear 8-10. I got the RAIN SHADOW in a Medium and it fits really well. Sleeves are on the long side (which I really like). I am sure, you'll be fine with your usual size.

Tough zipper

By:
May 31, 2005

I love Patagonia but decided to return this jacket because the waterproof zipper is too difficult to use (too much friction or something).

Perfect Spring/Fall Rain Jacket. Lightweight. I can bunch it up small in my bag. The sleeves are kind of long, but otherwise, I love the fit. Great jacket!

great durable jacket!

By:
May 25, 2007

I have owned this jacket for nearly 2 years now, and I would have to say its a great jacket. The zippers are a little stiff (and seem to stay that way!) however. The hook and loop closures on the wrist are strong and stay put. The hood is very adjustable and fits well. The jacket has a loose fit - great for layering.

Lovely functionaity

By:
October 17, 2008

I love this jacket. I am a student in the Midwest and I am out and about in teh weather. This jacket is light-weight, lovely (the berry color) and a great fit. I am 5'8, 130 and the small worked perfectly. Waterproof, windproof... worth the steep price. I will have it for years and years...

What does "roll-down hood" mean? Does that mean it

What does "roll-down hood" mean? Does that mean it can be tucked away in the collar when you don't want to wear it?

My daughter has one of these Patagonia Rain Shadow jackets. There is no separate collar. You can roll the hood inward on itself and secure it with a tab with Velcro fasteners. This will result in a sort of a rolled, stand-up collar.Additional information:The fabric is crisp and crackle-y (my daughter's jacket is new). The two front pockets run vertically from about nipple height to about the level of the hip bones. I believe they are designed to be accessed easily while wearing a pack.

Perfect

By:
November 18, 2008

I've worn this jacket everywhere from Maine rainstorms on the beach climbing, to backcountry snowboarding in Utah and It has been great. The low-profile zippers are great for wearing a harness over as I can't even feel them. The hood is nice and big so it fits over my snowboarding helmet and my climbing helmet. I'm a pretty small girl, but I ordered the medium anyway cuz it is great for fitting a down coat under in back country. I've recommended this jacket to a lot of people! It is just the perfect rain jacket.

Sweet Jacket

This jacket rocks! Completely water proof and breathable. The zipper has a good amount of friction due to the tape used, but that also means a tight seal. No water getting in!
