Rain or shine, you're just fine with the comfort and protection of the Outdoor Research Women's Venture Pants. Not only do these DWR-coated Supplex nylon pants hold off light rain showers from a sudden storm, but their UPF 30+ rated fabric protects your legs from the harsh sun on bluebird days. Articulated knees allow completely uninhibited movement when you're wearing these Outdoor Research pants on the trail, and roll-up cuffs convert them into capris when the weather is a little too warm for full-length pants.
Bottom Line: Venture out in the rain or sun with help from the Outdoor Research Venture Pants.
I'll have to agree with another reviewer's comments that sand is probably not the color to go due to the staining factor, but otherwise the pants are wonderful. Keep you just warm enough on the cool mornings and then you can roll them up to capris when it heats up. Lightweight, comfortable, good-looking pants. I liked them so much I ordered the same version in shorts.
Pants were perfect for the first couple of days on my Kilimanjaro climb. I'd say they run a little large as I had to return my first pair for a smaller size. Like other reviewers below - I also like the capri option and the adjustable belt feature. I purchased the color cocoa to camouflage the dirt/stain factor. Great for rock climbing too - room to move your legs easily. I am very petite and the length was perfect for me.
I originally ordered these in a size large, as I was nervous that the mediums would be too small. The large pants hung on my hips, which was comfortable, but the legs were quite voluminous. I then tried the mediums which fit perfectly (matches the size chart, but I was worried that despite that they would run small). I wore these for a safari and could easily wash the dust out at night and theyd dry by morning. I also used them on a 7-day Klimanjaro climb for the first few days. They were comfortable to hike in, even with silk weight tights underneath. I like the capri option a lot. I dont recommend the light color (Sand) for long camping trips as the dirt was pretty ground in (its coming out, but there still might be some stains). I like the fit and style so much that, assuming I get the stains out, I would wear them regularly.
I bought these pants for my 17-year-old daughter. She loved the up-to-date style, and she was relieved to finally find a pair of hiking pants to fit her petite 5'2", 100lb frame. The size small fit perfectly, much better (and far more gratifying) than kids' sizes.
I love the fit and quality of Outdoor Research pants. I try to buy them in multiples as they are always my favorite pants, and then its impossible to find in my size. This style seems to run smaller than the first style I bought (the Yampa Rose Pants). I wore an XS in Yampa Rose Pant, but a small in Venture Pant.
Just got back from 10 days in Belize, and the pants were the perfect thing. Worked great in the rainforest, keeping the bugs off yet staying cool, and worked great in capri length on the shore. I'm a size 6-8, and based on other reviews and product measurements, ordered a Large, which while roomy (especially in the legs) was comfy.
Wore these pants during a trip to Seattle. The most comfortable pants ever! They worked so well in the ever-changing Seattle weather. I definitely want to buy another pair.
Compared to other hiking pants I've owned, these are far & away the best. I can't stand heavier, more abrasive materials (even if they are more durable). These pants are incredibly lightweight, soft against the skin, and didn't snag on rocks or trees. The fit is perfect - OR designed these pants for an average woman's body (they might be a bit large in the hips & butt for someone who is very petite). I ordered a medium & typically wear a size 6.
I was surprised that the fit seems a little tight, small. I'm tall, fit & slender, usually a size 8 fits perfectly with a bit of room to spare. These pants will do for me but I'll have to make sure I'm well out of "holiday-eating" before wearing these pants. Fabric seems strong, lightweight, attached belt works very well. I like the pockets. Have not used the strap-things to create shorts but I think that will work also. Only complaint is the sizing.
At slightly over 5 feet tall, I have a hard time finding pants that fit my leg length. These are so perfect I bought a second pair as soon as I tried them on. I usually wear a size 6 and the medium fits me well. They're light and comfortable both on the trail and in the office. I like both the barley and the expresso colors but prefer the barley when the sun is out and I want to feel a little cooler. I have found the lighter color easy to clean even after grinding in dirt and grass stains. The fabric takes a beating without showing wear.
I used these pants this weekend and was pleased with the versatility. It was a bit chilly when we started hiking but warmed up quickly. I was able to fold them up to be like shorts and stayed cool. Later, it got cool again and I dropped them right down. Even later, it started raining and they kept me fairly dry and warm. They are a bit short for the long-legged but I didn't mind that they weren't scrapping the ground for the hike. I also really enjoyed the mesh pockets.
