Outdoor Research UltraLight Compression Sack

Compression sacks used to weigh twice as much as other stuff sacks. That time has passed thanks to the Outdoor Research UltraLight Compression Sack. Even the largest size (which is bigger than an average daypack) weighs under six ounces. Outdoor Research uses four compression straps to help cram your sleeping bag into a spot half of its normal size.

Bottom Line: Compression sacks for the weight-obsessed.

At the very least get the 25L. The recommended size is a 9"x20" large.

Great Compression

I definitely would recommend this to anyone looking for a compression sack. I grabbed a 15L one, and was a bit skeptical that my -20 Hybrid bag from MEC would fit, but somehow, this sack just kept swallowing it up. It got a bit tight near the end, making it a little difficult to stuff in, but she fits, and compresses down pretty small. I had problems with the MEC suppled sack as it wouldn't fit in any but my biggest packs, so this is great, taking it down to a size that will easily store in my Osprey 33L, or my BD 30L. There is a small pocket on the inside of the top portion, which I find no use for other than stowing the sack into, but some people might find it handy. The material is pretty light weight, and while I trust it to hold my bag while in my pack, I wouldn't want to hike with it outside my pack, since I feel light material punctures and rips way easier than some companies advertise. Pretty water resistant, but not waterproof.

If it is a down bag or a pretty light weight synthetic I would say the 15L, or if it is a heavier synthetic they recommend the 25L.

Great compression Sact

By:
June 16, 2009

Hey everybody....
Just wanted to let you know, i've used many different compression sacks out there..... this one is the best by far. I just got done climbing Denali for 18 days. I used one everyday to compress my sleeping bag, and other one to compress my clothes (down jacket, down pants, ie..)
It worked great and has no signs of wear and tear.

Cheers
