Outdoor Research Trance Sweater Down Jacket - Men's - 2007

An ultra-compact design lets you use the Outdoor Research Men's Trance Sweater Down Jacket as either an outer shell or as a mid-layer, so you can adapt to whatever weather the mountain throws your way. This 650+ fill down jacket adds only 14.7oz to your pack and takes up the same amount of space as a one-liter water bottle. The Outdoor Research Trance Sweater Down Jacket provides more insulation than a fleece at less weight, making it a great choice for ounce-obsessed backpackers and climbers.

Bottom Line: Shave weight without sacrificing warmth when you bring along the Outdoor Research Trance Sweater Down Jacket.

Nice, basic down sweater...

This is a fine sweater/jacket. it is fairly thin. Seems well made and looks like it will hold up. Simple features - e.g., no zippers on hand pockets, which makes it easy to stash. I'd recommend this to someone who wants a basic down sweater for the hut or a thin jacket for around town and who likes a loose fit.

Unfortunately for me, the medium wasn't a great fit for me. This jacket is roomier than the Patagonia down sweater, which I prefer.

Nice jacket

To see is to believe. To try is also to believe. I did. And I believed.

Downside (more like, just annoying) little feather stuff sips out once in a while.

Overall, this light piece of jacket is really warm. You'd be surprised to only have a shirt underneath this jacket and be warm. and I live in a place that gets below -40 degrees.

Great down sweater

For someone looking for a mid weight layer to go under a shell, this is a good choice. Functional styling with nice touches such as a micro fleece lined collar, zipper guard at the top of the zipper and hand warmer pockets. Quality construction, minimal down shedding. Only concern is the zipper is a little small. Stuffs well in suppplied stuff sack.

Nice touch.

Great piece! Light enough to take my pack, but durable enough to wear daily to work. I particularly like the light fleece lining on the collar. Warm on the neck, and it doesn't grease-out after several days of ski touring. Generous fit.

Super warm and lightweight!

The OR Trance is now my favorite jacket. It is really lightweight and not bulky at all like other puffy down jackets. I can wear a t-shirt under it and go out in 30 degrees and still be warm. It's thin enough to layer under a shell, yet the fit is big enough to wear it as a top layer over a t-shirt or two and a fleece jacket, and still have ample room and movement. And I love the fleece-lined collar. The only gripe I have is that the tag says the jacket comes with a stuff sack, but mine did not. Great jacket though!
