Outdoor Research loaded the Men's Revel Jacket with features designed to keep you comfortable whether you're on an afternoon hike or month-long backpacking trip. The TorsoFlo venting system zips from the hem to the armpits to allow total control over your temperature without the need to stop moving. Outdoor Research added an internal media pocket for those who like to bring tunes on the trail, and this pocket also doubles as a stuff sack when you need to store the Revel Jacket. If you find yourself in a stormy situation, just pull the hood out of its stash compartment in the collar, seal up the hem with dual drawcords, and keep moving while the Revel Jacket keeps you bone dry.
Bottom Line: The Revel Jacket is proof that Outdoor Research takes you comfort seriously.
Great jacket, lighter than Gore-tex, but seems to be every bit as waterproof and breathable as far as I can tell. Another major plus is that Pertex is stretchy, very soft and very quiet. Packs down really small, outstanding venting options, perfect 3 season weather protection for hiking and biking.
Is this thing waterproof? like, will water bead and run off? does it soak up water? I want a lightweight backpacking rain jacket for fishing in entire days bad weather... you know, standing still with no overhead cover in a downpour... recommend something else?
Yep if it ever stops beading apply another DWR. Im a big Gore-tex so check out something with Gore-tex Paclite like the Arc'teryx Beta SL Jacket or the Arc'teryx Alpha SL Jacket (both a few OZ lighter but quite a bit heavier on your wallet). You can also look at the Gore-tex website for other rain jackets that use Gore-tex. I know i could have just opened up a can of worms sayint that Gore-tex is the way to go but hey NASA puts it in the mulit million $ space suit so must be onto something.
pertex is a british performance material that you yanks should really use more. this jacket is very light and packable, an excellent shell to have in a backpack. totally waterproof(might not last without some re-dwr-ing)and as fart as I can tell no less breathable than gore-tex, though significantly less breatahble than Montane or Vaude eVent jackets.
OR says that this jacket can be packed into its own internal pocket that functions as a stuff sack. So far I haven't been able to figure out how to make it all fit in without it looking like a giant jacket-mess. Special way to do it or am I just missing something?
It can be done, but I've always avoided using the integrated stuff sacks in jackets. You increase the chances of tearing a seam by stuffing a jacket into one of its own pockets. For $6, go buy yourself a Granite Gear stuff sack. It's light, strong, and will be a much better choice than the integrated pocket.
I use this jacket as a waterproof/breathable shell over a softshell for skiing +waterproof/breathable, just as advertised +fits true to size -Hood not helmet compatible -Fabric feels very thin
but, worked great for me, survived some nasty spills and still looks great.
I have always loved OR. I think they have well thought out products. This is why I am disappointed with this jacket. It is way too thin and the sleeves are crazy short. if you just want something you can pack away in a sack for emergency use only, then it would be fine
I surprised that anyone would say anything bad about this jacket. This jacket is exactly what it is advertised as. It is waterproof, breathable and really light weight. You shouldn't buy this jacket to keep you warm, it is supposed to be a waterproof shell. It is similar to a gore tex pac lite jacket but much cheaper. This is great backpacking jacket because of its lightweight. It fits exactly like the 3 other Outdoor research jackets I own.
