Is the "soft fleece" lining in this jacket is a high pile like say the Arc'teryx Hercules of just enough of a fleece liner to ward off some cold?

Hey there Rwuff. It's not a high pile lining like the Herculues. It's very similar to the lining in a TNF Apex Bionic; just there to keep out a bit of the cold, but not really enough to act as an insulating layer (depending on your climate).

Wet winter weather watch out

If you want to stay warm AND dry in the winter, this coat does it all. A soft shell like coat, with its fleece interrior and stretch, but it is 100% water proof! I have used it ice climbing and on epic storm days powder skiing. Very comfy, keeps you bone dry, but maybe too warm for skinning up hill. For ice climbing and the downhill it rocks. A little on the short side, so tough to keep it in your harness while reaching up and climbing, but no big deal. Especially for the price, you get A TON with this coat

Can it be confirmed that the hood is NOT helmet compatible? Also anyone know if there is a powder skirt and if its cut on the short or longer side?

Looks like a contender with the Mt. Harwear Hooded syncro which does have a skirt and helmet ok hood

Hey kbuzz. I've tried this bad boy on and the hood is a little small for use with a helmet. You'd be better off cramming the hood under your helmet.

There is no powder skirt, and I found the jacket to be cut a little on the short side. It's a fantastic jacket, but it sounds to me like you're looking for a ski shell. This isn't really designed for skiing. Check out the MHW Kramer too. It's rad.

I bought one of these last year when I was in Seattle at the Outdoor Research store and it instantly became my favorite cold weather jacket. I've worn it in the rain and in the cold and for alpine skiing. It fits well and is bombproof. The hood will not fit over a helmet but that is the only fault I can find it with this jacket.
