Outdoor Research's goal in creating the Men's Furio Jacket was to design a shell that won't weigh down your pack, will hold up to nasty weather, and that adjusts to warmer climates. A combination of lightweight Gore-Tex Paclite and tough Gore-Tex Pro Shell gives the Furio Jacket the durability of your ski jacket with a huge weight savings. Outdoor Research's TorsoFlo zips open from your elbows all the way to your waist, so you can adjust from total storm protection to on-the-go ventilation in seconds. Whether you're a climber or a skier, this versatile jacket should be with you whenever you head into the mountains.
Bottom Line: Tough and light—the Outdoor Research Furio Jacket.
Great outer layer for cold winter weather or just by itself for those rainy hiking days. Great sinching elastixcs keep it close to your body. Adjustable hood keeps it out of your eyes and easy to see out of. Amazing wind stopping power. Used it for final ascent on Kilimanjaro, blizzard conditions, did amazing.
Great ski jacket. I gave it 4 stars because I prefer more pockets, this only has two chest pockets on the outside (and two inside). Great fit. I am 6'2" 190 and a L is perfect. I still have room to wear a baselayer jacket underneath.
I traversed the most gnarly region of tierra del fuego using this coat as my protection. Fierce bro, fierce. This jacket has been through every kind of rain there is. Little bitty stingin' rain... and big ol' fat rain. Rain that flew in sideways. And sometimes rain even seemed to come straight up from underneath.
I've been eyeing this jacket for a while, and it seems to be a good mix of Paclite and Pro. Depending on your style and what you prefer, you may want to consider the sizing options. I have a large, and this jacket fits more like a parka, which is good if you wear thicker layers (like me). At 5'10" and about 160, I probably could've fit into a medium perfectly, but as I said I prefer a looser fit on my outer layer. I have yet to fully test all the abilities of this jacket, but so far my opinion is good. I'm sure it will hold up fine in all 4 seasons.
I love this shell. Pick this shell up once and you'll feel just how bomb-proof this thing is. I love the full-length side zips (unlike many other shells which feature only pit zips or zips that only go half way down the side of the jacket). All of the zippers on this jacket are a little stiff, however I'm sure they'll loosen up with time. Also, I love how I can move freely in this jacket --the range of motion in this jacket is great! If you're interested in this jacket, just note that it seems to run a little big. I typically wear an XL, however that was way too big for me. I've got the L and even with a full complement of base layers & insulating layers on underneath, it fits me perfectly. It's got plenty of room up top in the chest and mid-section, yet forms tightly enough around the waist that I won't be worrying about snow flying up underneath when I bite it in the pow.
It may be a bit too noisy for golf, but it could be too heavy. I would suggest looking for something thats completely made out of Gore-Tex Paclite. Or something thats a bit more golf suitable such as something from a brand called Zero Restriction.
I got this jacket a month ago and have absolutely loved it. I sat in the rain for an hour just to test it out and it worked great. No leaks/ kept me really dry and the ventilation is great. I am pumped to use it snowboarding this year.
Very well made jacket, with one of the coolest features I've seen in a shell... poncho-style flexibility with the side zippers that go all of the way up to the elbows. To add to some it's great features, I really liked the adjustable hood, which doesn't hinder your view once adjusted (which is also very well thought out) Unfortunately I had to return it because OR's largest size (XXL) was a little snug if I wore a lightweight fleece. Excellent jacket for those with a slim build. Instead I got the Marmot Ascend softshell jacket because their XXL measured 50-52" for chest size (compared to OR's 49"), which happens to be another great jacket.
Have used this jacket for a month. The fit is good, size L(187 cm). It keeps me dry during heavy summer rain (and at sea in small boats. It can get quite wet once the waves are big enough..). Spacious pockets and hood. Seems to be more durable than other light(er) pac-lites. The zips along the sides provides air when its needed. Some small difficulties with the zip, probably since its new and has a waterproof design.
Used camping for a few days camping in the mountains. Compacted nicely into hood when packing; Great ventilation with the poncho style zips. Adjustable hood made things easier. Only thing missing would of appreciated some hand pockets, but I can live without.
