Outdoor Research AirPurge Dry Compression Sack

Outdoor Research did away with heavy, bulky valves and made the AirPurge Dry Compression Sack with a section of air-permeable fabric to maintain waterproof performance. Basically, you can fill this compression sack, close it, and cinch it down while air escapes from the breathable-but-still-waterproof fabric. Think of this Outdoor Research sack as a vacuum sealer for any gear you want to keep dry.

Bottom Line: Waterproof compression sack without all the extra doodads.

Dry clothes are NOT overrated!

By:

I have a OR sack very similar to this one, and it is absolutely fabulous! The ability to stuff your clothes in this sack and compress it and leave it out in the rain, and in the morning, when you are wet and freezing cold, to be able to pull out a dry shirt, when everything else that you have is soaking wet, is a feeling that you can't put a price on. This is a must have piece of gear if you have ever had to backpack in the rain.

Reliability

After 40 days in the tent in the mountains this season, this is a piece of gear that never fails and is ALWAYS with me. I pack my down sleeping bag and all my extra clothes in here, crank it down and drop it in the bottom of my overnight bag. BIg space saver, and keeps my gear dry, what more could you want!?!?!

Awesome

This is a great idea. I used it for a 19 day bicycle tour of Ireland where I knew we'd get some rain. It does a better job keeping my stuff dry than I expected. I got the 15L size for a summer weight down sleeping bag, and it was more than enough for that plus a towel and pair of socks. I will be taking it on all my backpacking trips in the future--no more trash bag around my sleeping bag. Another feature that drew my in was the stitching on the compression straps being nice and sturdy.

Depends on how big the sleeping bag is...maybe try and find out what the volume of the sleep bag is.

Dry Bag Review

By:

Cool dry sack. The fabric really allows air out while still functioning as a dry sack. Great for on the river, it would be nice if it was able to get a bit smaller, but the ability to get air out of your dry bag and also have it compress is awesome!

Write your question here...What size would you recommend for a sleeping bag ? Mid weight.

This all depends on what type of fill & the temperature range of your sleeping bag. "Mid weight" is a very relative term. For instance if it's a 20 degree down bag you can use the small size (10L) compression stuff sack, but if it's a 20 degree synthetic bag, the medium size (15L) is in order.

It's my bag, baby

Used this compression sac to store my Marmot Helium bag- worked great. Kept the bag dry, compressed the bag small, and worked in some pretty rough conditions. This bag kept my bag dry in every condition short of submersing it (which probably works also). Highly recommended.

I love this dry bag! The airpurge makes it really easy to get your things compressed and keep them that way. Great to have when you find yourself in a soggy spot.

Really nice dry stuff sac. A little on the heavy side for backpacking, but a great item for kyaking or just keeping sutff dry while camping. The purge system works great. Durable fabric will ensure this stuff sac will last you long time.

I disagree about the weight...I'd rather carry a little extra fabric than a soggy sleeping bag;)

Awesome dry bag

By:
June 16, 2009

This bag is awesome! I recently went on a 4 day kayaking trip and it worked perfectly. I wasn't sure what size to get, so I got the 30L because I knew it would compress, and I am so glad I did. It worked easily and flawlessly. Everything stayed dry and it compressed very small, even though I barely had it filled. If your not sure what size to get, get the 30L now so that you won't have to buy another bigger one later. I got this one for the flexibility of going in my kayak or a backpack for multi-day adventures. It is worth the little extra $ for the better bag!!! It gives you piece of mind.
