In an effort to save the world one messenger bag at a time, Osprey made their Elroy Bag out of over 70% recycled materials. This environmentally-friendly sling bag swallows your laptop and other gear with 25 liters of space. The Elroy Bag's front organizer pocket puts all your smaller items with in easy reach, while the removable cell phone pocket on the shoulder strap keeps your communication piece handy. Hook up the removable waistbelt for a solid fit when your load gets heavy.
Bottom Line: The Osprey Elroy Bag simultaneously hauls gear and grants peace of mind.
I don't carry a laptop, so I can't really comment on that aspect of the bag, though the padding is very thick, and seems like would protect an expensive notebook rather well. I use this bag mostly to carry my lunch, water bottles, and the crap that won't fit into my backpack to and from school and work. The random biology textbook (I'm a grad student, and they're pretty hefty), two Nalgenes, lunch, a jacket, sometimes an extra shirt, and frequently even more junk find their way into the bag. The organization potential is great, and the space is utilized very well, so I never have a problem fitting everything in an orderly manner. And the seatbelt webbing strap+extra awesome shoulder pad make it rather comfortable to carry-even with my huge Mountainsmith Guide stuffed to the brim on my back. I was originally attracted to this particular bag because of the environmentally friendly manufacturing process, but the bags features and durability have made me more than happy.
There is an enormous amount of room for everything imaginable. 15" laptops fit in the padded section with no problems. The quick outer zipper makes retrieving your laptop for inspection or on the plane painless & easy! I have yet to cram enough stuff in this bad boy to need the expansion, and judging by how heavy I've had it, I don't want to! (I'm sure it could take the weight tho!) The strap, though fixed, is incredibly easy to adjust. The fabric seems quite tough and likely to last for some time, along with looking sweet! The various pockets all over the place make being organized easy, and annoys TSA inspectors. (jk)
My biggest complaint is that the shoulder pad could be a little more...well padded.
That said, it's still a great bag, so buy it now!
Has anybody compared this bag to the Osprey Transit? I know that it is smaller but I am looking for a replacement to my Transit. I love it and not sure whether I should get a new Transit or an Elroy.
This is a great bag, I use it for commuting around town on my bike. I carry my laptop, gym gear, assorted cycling tools and lock. Sits well on the back when riding, very comfortable. I like that it comes with a cellphone pocket, has lots of diff compartments and a well padded cellphone sleeve. It also has a loop on the bottom you can connect a strobe lite to for night riding.
There aren't enough descriptive words to state how much I love this bag. It has so many great features and pockets. plus it holds my big 17" Toshiba Satellite P200 snuggly and safely and nearly anything else I can stuff inside. I thought that the recycled materials would be stiff or would have a "plasticey" feel to it but I was wrong. The material is soft and very easy to clean. I get so many compliments. Thanks Osprey for making such a wonderful bag and Thanks for great service!!
I don't care about the moon, but can it work as a purse substitute when I go to Venice with my laptop, water bottle, and a bunch of other stuff? I need to be able to take it on the plane along with my carry-on suitcase and it also needs to look reasonably urban rather than something I might take on a hike.
You hit the nail right on the head! Osprey rants : " Next generation materials for a day in the life of the eco-groovy urban warrior". you could us it on the trail or jet setting to Venice and stay hydrated with the 7" mesh water bottle holder, while sealing some deals with the 3.5"X5.5" padded cell phone holder. Rock the waistbelt or the shoulder strap. Buy one for your nanny too!
I'm a hard core techie, and have had many bags over the years. This is the best laptop bag I've ever had. I decided to get it instead of a Timbuk2 bag at the last minute, and I'm confident that I made the best choice. Its durable, holds my 18" laptop, franklin planner, text book, 3-ring binder, travel mouse, power adapter, pens, flash drives, calculator, water bottles sunglass case, and I've still got plenty of room for more stuff. The green one is super-sharp too. I get compliments on it all the time.
Simply a fantastic bag. Lots of room for the laptop, folders, ring binder and all the accessories. And the shoulder strap design makes carrying the load very comfortable. The bag provides great protection for the laptop while providing easy access to it without requiring you to open the main compartment. A durable, well designed bag.
I spent the last three years cramped inside way too many flying cigar tubes. This bag was a life saver. This bag will carry a laptop, all your cords and peripherals, pens and cards, an extra pair of clothes, an extra pair of shoes (mens 12), a waterbottle, and some food. The material is super durable and really stands up to being shoved under the seat in front of you. What I really love is the zippered messenger flap, it allows you to get to your laptop or files without flipping open the lid. This is critical when you're stuck between two midwestern sausage eaters and don't have a lot of room to move. The front pocket has an expansion zipper. I'm amazed at how much this bag can hold and still qualify as a carry on.
