Osprey Packs Airporter Lockable Zipper Bag - 8225cu in - 2007

Tough wilderness conditions can wear down your bag, but nothing on earth can match the unspeakable horrors that airline baggage handlers will unleash upon your precious pack. Osprey's Airporter cleverly addresses the problem of these vicious valets by encasing your bag in a protective sack with its own strap so that no amount of hurling, dropping, or any other abuse will touch the bag inside. The Airporter seals with a customs-friendly webbing draw cord, and stashes away in its own pocket once your bag is safely away from the baggage carousel.

Bottom Line: Barbarian bag handlers have met their match.

Good but Big

By:

This is a good product and I like that it protects my investment and favorite pack. It is easy to get my pack in it. It is a little hard to carry a heavy load so I put it on when I get to the check in stand. this would also be good to protect many things like a car seat or stroller.

Solid protection

By:

I have a Osprey 85 and it fits well into the bag - including throwing stuff along the sides that are not attached to the pack. It is nice to throw on quick once you are at the airport and take off once you get it off baggage claim. I dont recommend carrying it around forever on the single strap - just feels like it struggles with 50 pounds of pack in there. I had a couple small rips my first trip - but the rips were not the pack, which is the whole point of it. I wish for the price it would be a bit thicker gauge of material, but solid nonetheless.

Do any of you that own one of these have the actual dimensions?

Do any of you that own one of these have the actual dimensions? It sounds like it might be TOO big for my sons backpack which is 31 in. H x 14 in. W x 10 in. D.

If so, and anyone has suggestions of another cover that might be a better fit, I'd appreciate them.

This bag is a protective sack. If you need rain cover for 4340 in3 backpack, get M or L sized covers (depend on your needs). For example, Osprey UL Raincover.

Does precisely what it claims to, but is too big for many packs

By:
September 23, 2004

This is, essentially, just a giant bag to enclose your backpack when you check it at the airport. I was surprise that there's no way to secure the bag closed, you just pull a drawstring as tight as you can. Backcountry.com only sells the largest size of these, although Osprey makes 3 different sizes, and it completely swallowed up my Aether 60, making carrying it in the Airporter a little awkward. The Airporter does, however, do a great job of protecting your pack while traveling.

There are 2 zippers that you can group together and put a lock on. I used a luggage lock - so not positive that a thick "pad lock" will fit through - but a lock will work.

Duffle Big Enough for Two Packs

By:
September 5, 2006

This duffle bag fit my husband's and my fully-loaded backpacks en-route and returning from Europe. Really essential so our packs didn't get damaged. Don't try to load the packs one on top of the other, but more or less end to end with a bit of overlap in the middle. The long length of the duffle bag easily accommodates this style of packing.

Is it really necessary to get a bag to put your pack in when

Is it really necessary to get a bag to put your pack in when traveling? I don't want my pack to get killed if I checked it in but I don't want to be spending 30 bucks on something that really isn't necessary.

Yes... to protect the investment you made in the pack. It's a sacrificial anode. Spend the $30Not to mention that the belts in the airports have a tendency to snag your bag's straps and cause it to get lost in baggage or just plain ripped off, with what you pay for an osprey pack making the investment to take care of it in the airport is a good idea and one that will probabily save you some hasel.

Good bag.

I'm fully confident in durability of Osprey Airporter Bag. As its mentioned below, for carrying some baggage with potentially sharp edges the fabric would be a bit thicker.
