For a long day of touring around the mountain, use the Ortovox Free Rider Pack. This ski and snowboard pack holds a full day's worth of gear while keeping your back safe and protected. back protection makes it heavier, but after landing on my spine while trying a backflip the rock that should have cancelled my ability to walk never ever touched me! It flexes with my movements and carries the weight correctly for skiing. I love it's access to inside stuff and it's simplistic design. This is a very, very good pack.

Great Pack

Bought this last season, and abused the hell out of it all over Utah, Still looks good as new. Great pack for day trips or rope ducking, though a little small for overnighters in the backcountry. Love the spine pad in this thing, you can actually heat mold the pad so that it fits your back perfectly. Saved my but a couple of times.
The waist straps mold to you and the pack doesn't bounce at all.
Final word is, buy the pack. Its the best small pack I've ever used.

Sounds like the ski straps on this pack are limited to the size of ski they can hold...up to what width ski can this pack carry???
Also, according to ortovox website...there are two sizing options for the Free Rider 26. Which size is the one size you offer?

I saw this pack and tried it on @ the O.R. show this winter.
They make the back silhouette narrow so if /when you have it on you push your elbows back, you feel like you have nothing on!
The hip-belt is karate gi like, and you don't have any hotspots. They got the d.o.t. specs and design for the back pad from the superbike safety companies so if you huck a cliff have a bad landing your back is protected. The whistle is upside down so when you need it, it's less likely to fill with debris.
