Why? I dont trust crap other poeple have left in the mountains, including rap rings, slings, pins, ect. When I find rap rings on a sling, I cut em off and pocket them, then clean the sling and replace it with a new one I brought for rapping. Seeing as most other climbers do the same, why leave a new sling with a $5 rap ring when rapping right through the sling is perfectly safe. The only time I would use this would be on a big wall when you have hundreds of feet of rope to rap and it is resonable to see the rope moving back and foth a lot.

I've used this device for single rope repelling without any problem, even over a 1200' wall (80' actual repel). Good karma, I guess. Inexpensive enough that you can leave behind. Still read the mfg's disclaimer/warning. Do what you think is best!

(To clarify the "A Little Small" review) This is to run your rope and your sling(s) you are using as a rappelling anchor through so you don't burn your webbing with rope motion/ pulling the rope down. Just to be clear, this is NOT a belay device or rappel device--it is intended only to be used as a hardware alternative for creating a bail-out anchor to rappel off of. These are great to carry with you because they are so light and inexpensive. Though permanent rappel anchors should use Stainless Steel or Platted Steel--matching the rest of the hardware.

This item works very well when you use it to escape from a big wall or trad climb, or even at the top of a rappell. Make no mistake about it, this is not a belay device, such as the ATC, ATC-XP, or the Guide ATC; or any other belay device. This item is used to rappel from, not belay with. I have used these on several occasions, for their intended purpose and they work great! Nice, light, and easy to use.
