The Oakley Wisdom Goggle's amplified lens dimensions extend the range of peripheral and downward vision. A High Intensity lens increases contrast in snowy or overcast conditions for improved visibility. Contoured to facial geometry, the Wisdom offers a precise, comfortable fit enhanced by triple-layer face foams. Oakley retooled the intake ports for channeled airflow that reduces fog while keeping air currents away from eyes. These goggles are also available with a regular lens and an Iridium lens for sunny days. FITS MEDIUM TO LARGE FACES BEST.
Bottom Line: Oakley has topped themselves in design and style.
I used these goggles out west and they were amazing. You can see great all around unlike others where you can only see straight ahead. The only problem is that they don't fit with helmets well, especially mine (Giro G10).
Just got back from Breck and Keystone and these goggles are awesome! They were fantastic when it was overcast, and they were a must for night skiing. I didn't realize how much they helped until I lent them to a friend for a run and could hardly read the terrain. Worse yet, he didn't want to give them back! Plus the fact that you can switch out the lens on bright day makes these the ultimate. Can't go wrong with these.
p.s. I had no problem fitting these with my helmet, although maybe that was just my particular set-up...
Worked well for snowshoeing in light snow and sub 20 degree windy conditions. They did not fog up at all in the 5 hours that I used them. They fit me well and were very comfortable. One note, not all the lens options are high intensity.
These goggles are great and I would recommend them to anyone. They are great on low lights days and are almost too bright on sunny days. They look rad too. Word.
I wear a 7 5/8 baseball hat, and these goggles were too narrow for my face. The padding touched the corners of my eyes, and eliminated all peripheral vision. Nice goggle, just not a good fit.
These are pretty good goggles, but just not as good as what other things Oakley has to offer. I suppose if you have a really big noggin like charlie brown then these might be your only option. Even with their size, they don't circulate air well, which can cause a bit of foggage, not often, but it does happen. Unless you just love the look, I would stick with some crowbars or the a-frames. Also, these do not work with most helmets, the plastic on the side sticks out too far.
After going insane over the amount of goggle choices available, I went w/the Olive Military/Black Iridium style. Broke them in on a bright sunny day @Park City Mtn., and they worked like a charm. No fog up at all! Next day in snowy conditions @Snowbird was amazed at how clear & defined everything looked. Day 3 @Deer Valley was overcast but the lenses did the trick of keeping everything focused. Strap went perfectly over my helmet, the interior fleece padding felt great on my face, and the venting system does a wonderful job of keeping the lenses fog-free without freezing your eyeballs! I have a larger dome than most, but these fit my face perfectly, & with no gapping between them and my Giro helmet. Due to the expanded lower viewing angle there is a very minor bit of reflection if used indoors (trying them on), or staring at the sun. Although I'm a person that is bothered by the tiniest scratch on a lense, fingerprint smudge,etc..., the reflection didn't distract or bother me at all. Hope this helps narrow down the decision process for someone!
These goggles are like night vision for snowboarders! Perfect for night/cloudy or even day if you want. Nobody will stop you from wearing them! I promise! They are my favorite pair so much that I wear them exclusively. If I had to go back in time for some reason I would still buy them again!
Great goggle and they look pretty sweet too. Provide good visibility in most conditions even in the late afternoon. A personal favourite. Fits awkwardly on my helmet though and as a result has a tendency to slip onto my nose. Excellent optics from Oakley nonetheless.
I have used these goggles in all kinds of conditions and they haven't let me down. I have the H.I. Persimmon lenses and they are GREAT for night skiing when it's snowing and goggles are a must. They also work well in regular sunlight. My only complaint is they can be difficult to situate on a helmet.
I really dug the High Intensity Blue lens on these goggles, but the fit didn't work out for me. By far the best lens I've ever used in flat light, and I've used Smith Gold Lite, RC36, Clear, and Scott Yellow from a few years ago. Only thing I didn't like about them was the fit. Never really closed around my nose. But I've got kind of a flat face, so they may work for you. Goggles don't fit a helmet -- you'll need to spring for the helmet strap, which I don't think works that well.
Skied for a week at JHMR in awful visibility and 43in of new snow in six days over Christmas. I'm not complaining about the conditions. Googles fit ok over my eyeglasses but did not move enough air to keep them fog free. The addition of the anti fog solution to the glasses seemed to solve the problem but my old Bolles seemed to have better ventilation.
These goggles are excellent. I have a pair of blue iridium as well as high intensity and couldn't be happier. I board at 11,000 ft in Colorado so I'm always in the clouds and the high intensity pair will occasionally fog but only if it's a real dense foggy day and snowing like a mofo. On typical overcast days you can't beat the H.I. lenses. It is honestly like turning on a lightbulb. When you look at bumps and inconsistencies in the snow one side appears purple and the other yellow so you can really spot out the terrain. I don't know how Oakley does it. The Iridiums are equally sexual when the sun's out scorching your retinas. They block the rays and still maintain a stellar performance of highlighting terrain changes. The goggles themselves are very comfortable, but I'm not wild about the shape. Peripheral vision is excellent but I doubt they are helment compatible, even though they claim to be. I haven't tried them with one because I hate wearing a helmet, but with the wierd plastic do-dads on the strap-to-goggle mount I doubt if they would fit comfortably against a helmet edge. Also, the top side of the goggle frame is more roundish than a goggle conventionally designed to sit flush to a helmet so I doubt if they would seal tightly. All in all, an excellent pair of gog's but if you always ride with a helmet, I'd look elsewhere.
Used the Wisdoms occassionally during the 08-09 season. Notice the design where the strap connects to the goggle. This plastic connector is not truly compatible with many helmets (mine is a Giro G10 MX), resulting in the dreaded gaper gap. Same problem experienced by numerous friends trying out the same model goggle with various helmets. Unforgivable design flaw in my opinion, thus the 2 star. I'd consider them adequate (3*) for helmetless riders. Nothing special - I'd never pay msrp for these. Mine are black irridium lens. They appeared mirrored in the backcountry.com photo but when I recieved them they looked see-through. When you put them on though, they do look mirrored. That is, your eyes cannot be seen.
these are a great goggle... for the larger noggin though so if your head is on the smaller side these babies are not for you... fogged up a little from time to time but i put this down to human error and not actually the goggle... high intensity lense black iridium... the dogs nuts in white outs and low level light days with lots of cloud... so good i bought a second pair
Just returned from skiing in Chamonix, whilst on the glacier with a guide, one minute bright sunshine the next the cloud came down and it started snowing hard, I put my goggles on, the other members of my group all complained that they couldn't see a thing, yet I could just about make out the contours and was able to ski with more confidence (and safer) in the guides tracks in the crevasse ridden area. I could also ski faster with confidence in the fresh powder in whiteout conditions, how much is that worth!
Wisdom Goggles are only helmet compatible if you buy the Wisdom Goggle Helmet Strap, the standard strap clashes with the helmet pushing the goggles much lower down on your nose which is both uncomfortable and reduces your nasal capacity. The Helmet Strap works well, if you wear a helmet you will need it.
These goggles are awesome for low light. I have owned a pair of HI wisdoms in the past and was impressed with the visibility in low light and especially with the comfort and fit. I would recommend them to anyone whom they fit.
You think you might be paying for the name, but it's worth every penny. I've had a pair of Wisdom from 2003 (also purchased from Backcountry) and they're still in one piece. I'm positive they saved me from a broken nose countless times. I have one for bright & low lighting. But if you need something for in between, the regular persimmon lens works well. It doesn't hurt that they look good on too.
These goggles are far superior to any lens I have used to ski the overcast, shady, and snowy conditions! You can see the definition of the surface in front of you. This is a real improvement over a standard yellow lens which just brightens. My wife and I both love these goggles for their visual quailty. Visually these goggles deserve a 5, but the goggle strap is marginally compatible with my helmet. These goggles overall are worth the money!
The goggles are very high quality and, judging by a quick look around, the hi blue lens may truly be the best flat light lens out there. However, the goggles fit poorly with my Carrera helmets, creating a large "gaper gap".
For 49 ski seasons I have been searching for googles or sunglasses to help me with the very frequent "flat light" conditions I must ski in where I live. FINALLY I have found the solution in the Wisdom Goggle with the High Intensity Lens. These goggles far exceeded my expections. They are the BEST and believe me, I've been searching for 49 SKI SEASONS...
Though a tad pricey, these goggles are great. It's like turning on a light switch when you put them on. Theyre too bright for sunny or partly sunny days....but perfect for storm days and cloud cover days. They help you spot those surface features of the snow which can surprise you. The spherical lens is superior for downward and peripheral vision. The only complaint I have is the plastic hinge where the strap attaches to the frame....it gets in the way with a helmet, at least mine, but I got it to fit with a little monkeying....the system would be fine with no helmet or one with a recessed rim in the temple area. They look cool too!
Been searching hi and lo for a goggle that works well in snow, flat light and generally miserable conditions. While not perfect, the Oakley High Intensity goggle offers the best field of vision in the worst possible conditions.
There serve as an excellent replacement of my previous Oakley ski goggles. Solid construction, amazing optics, and they even fit over my glasses if I decide not to wear contact lenses on my day on the slopes.
Lenses are amazing for flat light, night skiing or heavy snow days. Huge coverage allows for great range of views. Hardly any fogging, great ventilation. Only downside is the way Oaks sit on your nose. Seems like they want to rest real high with most of the lens above your eyes...push ;em down and they close your nostrils. Just me? Maybe? But, look at others wearing Oaks and see where they sit.
I spent hours on the computer shopping around. Found these great Oakley goggles with the expensive H.I. lens at the best price, by far! Very happy with the goggles, skiing day or night.
Not all that thrilled with these... Don't get me wrong - they are well designed and built, they just fit my face funny. I wear a helmet and I think these would do better without one. Wisdoms are quite tall which means better visibility but it also means the top of the goggles hits my helmet which pushed down on the goggles. The net effect is that they put quite a bit of pressure on my nose making it more difficult to breathe (not to mention being uncomfortable). If you don't wear a helmet you'll love them. Oh yeah - the Hi Yellow lens absolutely ROCKS in low light conditions... don't leave home without them on a storm day.
These goggles are great on snowy days. Periphiral vision is top notch and I can see much better than any dark tinted lense. I have a pair of Iridums for blouebird days and these for overcast, whiteout, or just plain snow days.
very comfortable on my face and great field of vision. They were not very compatible over my helmet, even with the helmet strap. So I cut out the adjustable slides and resowed the headband to a length the fist comfortably under my helmet with no plastic pieces diggin into my brain case.
Great goggle! Fits good my face and helmet, and does its job when weather sucks. The iridium coating can easily make you buy another lense after just a season. Handle with care... = never ever rub!
I have owned these for about a month and they really do help in flat light situations to an extent. The lens are very clear and large which is nice. I noticed the increased airflow through the top which at high speeds is a little annoying but not an issue at normal cruising speed. The first time i skied powder I noticed some dampness on the inside of the lens which I thought was weird - they were missing a foam piece that was supposed to have been glued to the lower vent. So this is a good goggle, but lousy quality control as these should never have left the factory like this. Unfortuneatly I already have used them several times so can't return for a new pair that are assembled correctly.
I haven't really tried many other night/low light goggles. I guess it's because these are so great I haven't had to try any others. I definitely recommend them if you are looking for a night/ low light type goggle. They never fog and make everything brighter.
I used this goggle for the first time today. The high intensity lens made things look really clear, without causing me to go blind in the snow. If you have a really wide face it might feel like the edges of the goggle are really close to your eyes. Other than that, it fills up quite a bit of your face. It seems to have a strong frame as well, it really got tested hard today.
