Oakley Walkabout Down Jacket - Women's - 2005

The Oakley Women's Walkabout Down Jacket is a full-length down coat that makes it practical to walk to work in the dead of winter. 450-fill goose down stands between you and the blizzard. The flattering diagonal baffles keep the insulation in its place. A wrap-around belt adds sophistication, as do the quilted waistline and shoulders. Large pockets let you store handwarmers and emergency provisions, should the storm of the century shut down the city. Cover up with the hood when the flakes fall, or remove it in favor of your beloved beanie when the sky is dry.

Bottom Line: Walkabout, it's filled with city-styled warmth.

great coat!

This is a great winter coat. I thought it would be 100% down, but it's not it's 70% or so, but it's still pretty warm. the velcro on the bottom is a tad annoying.

Impractical and poorly designed!

By:
December 11, 2006

At first I wrote a positive review, but the winter winds have proved me wrong. The zipper only goes down to above the knees, with two patches of hook and loop to hold the bottom part of the coat together. This hook and loop is hard to find and match up while you're standing or walking, and it isn't strong enough to keep the coat closed on a windy day. The coat is pretty warm, but by the third day of wear it seeemed like I was losing a significant amount of down already. Also the pockets are not lined, which is significant if you forgot your gloves. It's a cute design, but overall, not the most practical coat. You can get better-designed coats for the money, like the Lands End coat.

Warm and Styling

By:
November 6, 2006

This Oakley coat is light-weight and warm. I bought the sage color, which actually looks more beige and green but is a very neutral color.
The cuffs also have elastic ribknit, to keep the wind out and help you stay warm.
Love the jacket!

Walk around Boston in a sleeping bag!

By:
February 13, 2006

I can't say enough good things about this fantastic coat! It's so warm and cuddly. I'm really pleased with it! The only caveat is the VELCRO enclosures on the bottom. Oakley should have spaced these a bit better as there's a bit of a gap when I walk. I'll add another one myself. BUY IT!!

Watch the hook-and-loop closure!

By:
January 4, 2006

The coat is lightweight, warm, and comfortable. But there are two unprotected hook-and-loop strips towards the bottom (below the zipper) of the closure that will catch on and rip up your nylons. You can't walk with these two strips stuck to their mates, so there needs to be some method for covering them when you need to walk and don't need to have the coat closed below your knees.

Light Weight /Nice Looking

By:
October 9, 2006

I'm 5'8" and this coat is a bit short-waisted on me. On the positive, it is lighter weight than my old down commuter coat and also actually has a shape so I don't look like a walking sleeping bag. I like the look of the orange lining too. Don't know how warm it is yet as it is only October.

Warm Is Good!

By:
February 22, 2006

Jacket is well made and definitely warm. If I'm cold enough to wear it, I don't want to be wearing a dress anyway, so the VELCRO/hose issue is a non-issue for me. The ONE improvement I'd wish for is a two way zipper so that the bottom can be unzipped when seated. (L.L. Bean provides these two way zippers routinely, and I am quite addicted to them.) Sage exterior with gold/rust interior lining. I love the colors!
