Loaded to the brim with updated functions, the Oakley Icon Backpack 3.0 reaches legendary status. Protect your laptop in the side accessible padded sleeve when you need to carry your projects and gear out of the house. Stick your mobile phone in the shoulder strap pocket and forget about anxious moments trying to find your phone. Because you roll to a soundtrack Oakley added a media pocket with headphone port. An internal organizer keeps your smaller tools together and includes space for a PDA or GPS device, plus a mesh pocket for your shades. Stash a cap and your gloves in one of the side zip pockets, and when you get tired of carrying your load on your back, switch to the integrated strap handle.
Bottom Line: Version 3.0 updates the bomber, multi-day, classic Icon Backpack.
I use this bag for med school and its great. I put my computer in the built in sleeve, which I can access from a separate zipper on the side. I'm also usually carrying a power cord, a few books, water bottle, sunglasses case, some workout clothes and food. It's the perfect size and comfortable under a heavy load. The smaller compartments are great for organizing keys, pens etc and I can reach back, unzip, access and re-zip a side pocket without taking the pack off. Solid Oakley product!
guys, these icon packs are the best backpacks i've ever seen/used. I have an original icon pack that has literally lasted me ten years. I used it all through grade school, high school, and am now using it in college. I've taken it on hunting trips, god knows how many overnighters, and carried 40 pounds of books in it frequently (my mom actually measured once). It distributes the load weight very well, so while you still know you're carrying a lot of weight, i'd deffinitely choose this pack over any other because of how well the straps and everything are designed to make you feel comfortable.
actually i got this kind of bag since 2003 and still im using it.(as of 090309) i put my ps3 and the other accessories evrytime im going to my friends house.or i use it everytime i go to other country like japan and singapore.the larges volume i took was over 18Kg.with 2 laptop and some clothes.sandals and sleepers and foods at the side packets.
That all depends on what you do with it. The more you use it and the rougher conditions you put it through the more worn out it will get. But here is the cool thing with Backcountry.com This is there return policy:

Bag is of high quality materials and construction is super solid. Used for a year for bicycle commuting, day hikes, and even some skiing.Bag still looks new.
Size is good, pockets where plenty, and comfort was excellent. Just too many damn straps that were always getting in the way!!! If you can get past the straps, buy this bag, it is nice.
This is a great bag with plenty of room for most everything you have. I have a 17" laptop but this bag will only hold a 15" in the "laptop protective sleeve", so my 17 does fit just not in the sleeve which is cool with me. Plenty of pockets and other various compartments. When you put the bag on your back you realize that it is a bigger bag than most other regular packs. Glad I own it!
This pack has been used for most of my long trips to China, US, and family outings. It stores my pc (17in), files, toiletries, pens, IPod, etc. You name it and it can handle it. I pack it with clothes for two night stays and can literally go without any other item to carry. And I carry it on my back and my hands are always free to drink, eat, or read on the go. Great item.
I purchased the Icon 2.0 in 2003 and it has been a great student/travel bag. I've used it nearly every day for my basic school needs and it has survived a lot. I've also traveled to Europe and the Caribbean multiple time with it. Now the bottom is starting to fray and one shoulder strap is starting to separate. The pack can survive a lot but I would never use the Icon to hike, ski, or bike with. The waist strap for me is pretty useless. I'm 6'1" and the uncomfortable waist strap goes around my ribs. For students it's great, but not for anything else.
My boyfriend has this bag and it is amazing! It has pockets everywhere for everything and holds a TON. Unlike a lot of other large bags, when it is fully packed, it doesn't have that big bulky look to it. Not to mention, the bag has taken quite a beating and it still looks great. This is definitely an incredible bag and worth its seemingly high price.
This bag is the steeze beez kneez. Super Versatile. I'm outta my house for long periods of time and always have a bag. my ogio street just broke. This bag is equal if not better than that. room for all the things i have with me, including laptop, chords, a lunch, study material (so a few books about and inch each), zune, chords and headphones, stethoscope (I work first aid sometimes and use my own stethoscope), sunglasses/case, and still have room!! even with that much weight, its easy to haul around such a load. Contrary to the tech specs, there is a waistbelt that helps keep the pack close and secure. I've taken this hiking, to work, used it as an overnight, and just as a day to day pack. After some staring at it, and my EMT senses tingled: i found i could even use this as a pretty effective trauma pack. It'd have room for a 150 piece kit at least (splints, gauze, curlex, scope, cuff, etc.). If you need a day to day pack that you use for all purposes, THIS IS YOUR BAG! No regrets. versatile
This bag is the bomb but so everything that I own from Oakley. I have the Icon 3.0 and The Kitchen Sink. I use the Kitchen Sink for daily use in place to travel back and forth to work, air, gym, etc. The bag is sweet!!! Tons of looks on top of the great versatility and ease of use. I use the Icon 3.0 for hikes. PERFECT!! Obviously it would only work for a day hike or a one nighter. Love them both, both have tons of room, and the quality of both is typical of Oakley....Superb!!
