XLJ = Perfect mix between sport and style!!!

By:

I have the jet black/fire iridium polarized combo and i love them. my only knock is they shelf of frame the "O" sits on is sorda weird looking. However, the unobtanium makes them slip proof and they actually snug down the more you sweat. If you have high cheek bones like me the lens may tough your face but they don't on mine but if you have a bigger face i could see how they possibly could. Over all out of this world and totally worth the extra bones for the polarized lens. 5 stars

Killer Sunglasses

By:

Thes sunglasses are great. The Iredium lenses are fantastic, they a dark enough to so that you can look at the sun, yet light enough to actually see around in a house. They are also so grippy that they stay on your head like a fly on a fly strip. This comes is especially helpfull for me because I play baseball. Also as an extra bonus Oakley threw in a cleaner/bag for the sunglasses, which is nice to have. I recomend that you buy these. I also recomend that you buy an oakley case for these, I have one and it keeps your sunglasses from getting scratched. Plus you can put them anywere with no worry.

Great Glasses

By:
November 29, 2008

I have these glasses with VR28 prescription lenses. I've never been a fan of Oakley sunglasses for their style. Personally, I think they all look rather futuristic...like something the designer came up with after watching a Star Trek episode. But, after trying the Half Jacket XLJs, I've come to use these glasses during all sorts of outdoor activities. I see them simply as a great piece of gear. Whether I'm mountain biking, rock climbing, snowshoeing, etc, these glasses shield my eyes from the sun, stick to my head, and provide a level of physical protection. Just like a good climbing helmet or an ugly pair of clip-in biking shoes, I will continue to use these...regardless of how rediculous I think I look in them. Of course, I wouldn't be caught dead in them at a social function.

Great glasses and least expensive compared to other online outlets and mall stores, even when you figure in the S&H. Very satisfied with the service I received.

Great sunglasses

February 28, 2005

I like everything about them. Lightweight, with very effective lens. Haven't gotten extra lenses for different light conditions yet, but it's good to know there are many lens choices to cover any situation.

Great service, prompt shipping. You can get Oakleys anywhere but the customer service is what makes Backcountystore.com a great place to buy them. I would buy from them again.

I don't care about the color of the glasses, I need the lenses

I don't care about the color of the glasses, I need the lenses with the lowest rate of transmission. Which should I order? waht are the various rate of transmission of the four types you offer? Thanks

The various lenses are explained in the sizing chart. Of the ones currently in stock, the Black Iridium lens is the darkest at 10% VLT. The Gold Iridium is next at 12%, and the other two are both in the 25-30 range.*****If you want even lower transmission than that, buy yourself a set of replacement lenses in Ice, Black, or Gold Iridium Polarized. Those three have transmission rates of 9%.

Nice, but not for everything

By:
September 24, 2004

Despite the fact that these glasses looked really cool, I had to return them. The lenses fogged up way too much for mountain bike racing. I am back with Bolle Vigilante which sit the lenses farther from the eyes, and don't have nearly the fogging problems of Oakley.

I would have liked to have kept these glasses for non-mountain bike use but the cost was prohibitive. I also ended up with a pair of Nike's from Sunglass Hut that fogged too much but I couldn't return. Thus those are my non mountain bike glasses now.

Thanks to backcountry.com for the no hassle return on the Oakleys!

I love the glasses but they came with some VR28 Black Iridium lenses. The lenses were useless to me and BackCountry would not change them out.

I had a pair of Fire Polarized lenses and I put them in; now they are great.

Love the glasses, I just wish they would have traded me for better lenses (the VR28 were useless to me).

Very Good Shades

By:
August 23, 2005

Read about these in golf digest—they were highly recommended. This site had a good price. Nice looking shoes, really good function, my seven-year-old says I look cool—the highest recommendation. If you are looking for some new glasses at not too crazy a price these could be them.

Great All Around Shades

By:
November 7, 2005

I use these mostly for mountain biking, hiking, and kayaking. They provide great protection for all. The interchangeable lenses are great for all different light conditions. The only fault I have found with these are some fogging when mountain biking. On warm humid days the lenses instantly fog up for me when I come to a stop on the bike. This only happens on early morning rides or in very humid conditions. As long as you have air moving across your face they do not pose a problem. The lenses are a little tricky at first to change, but after a few times it is easy. All around, I highly recommend these shades.

They do make my fat head look a bit fatter but...
These things won't come off my face whether I am ice climbing, biking, jogging or boating.

I have owned 2 pairs of these. They are great. They fit my head perfectly. Some sunglasses start to give me a headache after wearing them for an exteded period of time. Not these guys. They look great too! They are great for biking, running the river, and just looking badass.

Nice multipurpose glasses

By:
March 25, 2009

A smaller/narrower face is a must for a good fit. Frames proved to be bulletproof. Lenses are a little soft and can ship and scratch easily. I have the mutli-lense set and use them for many different sports. Side protection is just OK. Love the UVA/B/C protection from Oakley.
