Oakley Assault Lite Jacket - Men's

When you head out to shred, lay down a full-mountain attack with the Oakley Men’s Assault Life Jacket. This two-layer coated shell jacket features waterproof construction and fully taped seams for comfortable skiing and riding in any conditions. When things heat up, remove the adjustable hood and open up Oakley’s Air vent system for added breathability. The Assault Lite features wrists gaiters and a removable powder skirt to keep spindrift out, and is compatible with Oakley’s 3-N-1 system. This jacket also has all kinds of pockets for you to stash everything from your goggles and MP3 player to your schwag bag.

Bottom Line: Assault the mountain; it can take it.

Coat looks and feels great

By:
October 15, 2009

Today I just got my green Oakley Assault Jacket from Steep and Cheap and so far I love it. It is not the 'lite' version and I'm not sure how it differs but I'm assuming that they are close enough to the same that I could write a helpful review. First off I love the color scheme, I got the green one and it looks great along with the brown liner it looks pretty cool. Another thing that I like right off the bat is the amount of pockets on the coat. When I go skiing I like to bring various candy bars and snacks along and there are enough pockets on this coat to keep me well supplied.

I'm 6'2" and about 190-200lbs and got the medium based off of other reviews and the coat fits great. I only gave it 4 stars because I just got the coat and didn't think it would be right to base a 5 star review off of just cosmetics and feel. Hopefully I wont be disappointed when I do actually get to ski with it.

Hope my review was somewhat helpful minus not being able to say anything about how it works on the slopes, you'll at least know you are getting a nice looking coat.

Hi, I am 1.8m tall, and 225 pounds. Is L the correct size for me? Also, is this thing waterproof. I am trying to save $$ by not buying a goretex shell, and would like to know how breathable is this.

Huge

By:
March 9, 2009

This jacket is massive. I'm 6'-4", 225 lbs, got the XL, and this thing wears like a tent. I imagine it is good for the baggy look, but I think I could have achieved that with the Large. The pit and pocket zips are definitely sticky, and hard to manage with gloves. The interface with the liner is clunky, too -- using buttons and loops instead of hook-and-loop or snap fasteners. Plus, the sleeve buttons are about 6" up the sleeve, making it difficult to insert the liner without taking the whole thing off. I personally don't like wearing liners when I ride, so it's not that big of a deal to me, and I got an extra jacket out of the deal.

Overall, the jacket is definitely sweet and bomber, and as long as you plan on just wearing it together or in layers and not making a lot of changes. If you can pick it up for a deal and like Oakley equipment, then go for it. But unless you like your shell super-big, get it a size smaller than usual.

I've heard many people say this jacket runs fairly baggy and large...if I'm 5'7" and 135 lbs should I get the small or the medium?

Great buy

By:
January 9, 2009

This jacket is a great buy! It is light, runs a bit large, but gives you everything you need if it be snowboarding or just winterwear. I dont use it for snowboarding but it is built for it, it wont let any snow in from underneath or through the wrists and the magnets help in keeping the hood on.

You can't buy the tricot liner that comes with the regular

You can't buy the tricot liner that comes with the regular Assault jacket separately but some zip ins are available, usually one style per year. These include the 10th star jacket (461025 - discontinued) and private fleece (461023 - discontinued '08). Oakley says that the freight jacket (411213) and freight vest (411214) will work but I think they're either very old or not released yet as I can't find mention of them anywhere. None of these options come in the brown color that the tricot liner that comes with the regular Assault jacket does. These optional liners are thicker than the tricot (which could be good or bad) and not as 'sticky' when you try and put them on with a long sleeve shirt or sweatshirt on.Otherwise, it's a great looking, functional jacket. Seems durable except the very thin, climbing rope zipper pulls (less than half the diameter of a comparable North Face).

Great Jacket

By:
January 27, 2009

I got it off tramdock for a steal of a deal. Backcountry touring this weekend it definitely stopped the wind and had decent breathability. As recommended, I bought a size smaller and it fit perfectly. The one con is the core venting is blocked by backpack straps (similar to some North Face jackets)

Because this jacket is the "lite" version, does that

Because this jacket is the "lite" version, does that mean it is focused for warmer weather? Would it be ready to tackle the colder temps with a decent liner?

the "lite" comes with the wrist gaiters; the assault does not.

I got the XL and I'm 5' 11" and 160ish. It is the perfect baggy fit, maybe a bit big, but I plan to grow into it. I've used it in cold weather and it holds it's own quite well, even very waterproof despite the 10K rating. I like this jacket. For you I'd say get the L unless you want quite baggy then get the XL.

Im 5 10 170 and got the M. it fits and looks nice, the only problem is the removable liner, good thing i never use it. the M fits me great i think a L would be a bit much.

Sizing runs large

By:
November 17, 2008

Warning....the sizing runs very large. I'm 6'3", 200 lbs and I typically wear an XL. I ordered an XL but when I tried it on, I was swimming in it. It was HUGE! I actually returned it for a medium and it fits great.
