Oakley's A Frame Goggles with Iridium Lenses block more visible light than the standard A-Frame lenses, making them the goggle of choice for cold, sunny days. You don't lose any of the A-Frame's famous optical clarity or wide peripheral view. A triple layer of face foam insulates and provides maximum comfort. The flexible urethane chassis is chiseled with ram-air surge ports for a circular flow of defogging ventilation. The A Frame Goggles are best for medium to small faces.
Bottom Line: Bright sunny days call for the Oakley A Frames.
I would give it 5 stars but it fogs easier than the sunny day lenses on my Wisdoms and the strap joints on the sides of the goggles doesn't fit right with my helmet and pushes my goggles down my face. Other than that, I love the much needed visibility it gives me on dark or cloudy days!
Even with a big had and a helmet, these fit great. I have two pairs and love them. I have tried various goggles that friends have from Smith to Bolle to Dragon and more, but I love my A-Frames. Comfortable with a great field of vision. Easy to interchange lens's. Backed by Oakley's warranty and customer service (which I have never had a problem with after 10+ years of purchasing their products).
Probably the best goggles I have owned. They work great in the day, but not recommended for use at night. Never do they fog up! I would also encourage you not to rest your goggles on your forehead, like everyone else seems to do. This allows for the goggles (the foam) to form to your head and not to your face. This rule goes for any type of goggles.
I used spy goggles before which were ok. But when i got on a pair of oakleys it was a night and day difference. The selection for lens is great. I had trouble in the past because of the low light on the east coast. So i bought two different lenses. Which is great for the snowboard trips or if the sun comes out. The field of vision they provide is second to none. I would recommend these goggles to any serious shredder.
I worked as a lifty in CO for an entire season and had these on for 8+ hours a day for 6 months. They're super comfortable and you almost forget you have them on most of the time. In terms of lenses, I went with the "Fire" lense for bright days and the "H.I. Yellow" when the weather gets crappy and the light gets flat, and both worked really well.
Oh and FYI...if you rock the Fire lenses, its impossible for others to see your eyes, which means you dont have to play your hand when you check out girls in the lift lines.
Do the "Oakley Text/Black" goggles come with Black Persimmon Iridium lens, which are for weak sun, or Black Iridium lens, which are for bright conditions?
My A-Frames are perfect for me. Great fit, works with my helmet, and they look good. Make sure you get the right lens for the conditions you're going to ski in. The persimmon lens will leave you squinting often in the Colorado sunshine.
Great googles, didn't fog up. Worked well with my helmet! Worked better for my younger son who has an XL helmet. A bit small for my older guy's XXL helmet - yes, we have big heads!
I have used these goggles in snow, sun, and anything in between, and they are the best. The fire lens works great in any condition and it look super tight because nobody can see what you are looking at. The foam is super soft and comfortable, and they fit great with or without a helmet.
These are probably the best goggle i have used. They fit perfectly on a smaller persons face, even with a helmet on. Also the the lenses have never fogged up on me, no matter the conditions.
The only thing wrong with them is that they start smelling like a hockey bag if you don't let them air out a bit after you've used them for a day
These are great goggles, with quality that you would expect from Oakley. They fit great with or with out a helmet (salomon patrol ace.) The only downside is that they have a somewhat limited field of view, this would probably not be an issue for those with smaller heads. The wisdoms or the crow bars are better for those with a larger melon
I've never been a giant fan of Oakley products but these goggles may have just changed my mind. I got my first pair of A Frames despite the fact that they look really cool and just because at the time, it was a really good deal. They sucked. They fogged up every time I put them on. It turns out that Oakley had a problem with their coatings that year and quickly fixed that. I got another pair this year and they are great. I've never had my new ones fog up at all and the lenses seem to be relatively scratch resistant (for goggles). They fit my dome perfectly and I really don't see any need to switch brands again. Good stuff, even though they look cool. Hopefully I'm the only person who notices that.
these are consistently the best goggles on the market. never fog, fit any size head, peripheral vision is a little narrow but for the quality of the product who cares!! this is my 3rd pair and will continue to buy more.
These goggles fit well on my gourd-sized head! They solved the fogging problem I had with my other goggles. Great eye protection in the bright sun but don't think for a minute that you can use them under the lights for night skiing. You get double flares from the reflecting lights.
I bought these as a Christmas present for a family member and she loved them. I had bought the Oakley Wisdom goggles with the same lens and she had a sneak peak at those and loved them so I decided to get her a pair that were a bit smaller. No complaints from her and they look great.
On my first day with the goggles - a 10 degree sunny Colorado day, they fogged constantly in between the 2 lenses, so there was no way to clear it. To make matters worse, the customer service at Oakley is tragic. I immediately sent the goggles back to Oakley and for over 2 months they have refused to replace them. They are frustrating, slow and often rude.
For the longest time I thought goggles were goggles. These changed my mind. No problem with fog, lenses are top quality and the fit to the face is right for me. I am a huge fan.
I bought this goggle for my boyfriend last month and he likes it very much. We've been skiing in Utah, goggle fits great, looks good on his face, great quality. Also I would like to thank BackcountryStore.com for excellent service and prompt response. [And we, in turn, would like to commend the customer on her impeccable taste in ski destinations. oakley has out done themselves with these. They are extremely badass looking and they provide the best visibility in flat light over any other goggles out there. props to the creaters at oakley.
I used the A Frames with irydium lenses in the Alps during snow fall and sunny weather. The goggles were fog free all the time. I had my prescription glasses on and they fogged from time to time. The A Fames have really good ventilation and moving with intermediate speed removed the fog quite fast (means keep going all the time :) The A frames give really good visibility in every direction and good contrast both during sunny and cloudy days.
Lay down the cash for these babies. I own the A-frames with the amber lens and they work like a charm. The other day I went riding at the local resort and I fell on the first jump getting snow inside the goggles. I shook out the snow and set them on my forehead and 3 runs later they were good as new. The venting works super good and as long as you keep some air flowin through the lens you'll be fog free. Just dont pop em on your dome when you hike backcountry. They'll fog up like a submarine make-out session.
Recently purchased during Telluride dump. Fogging never an issue, worked as described. Do not wear on top of head when not in use as the oils from your hair will interfere with the anti-fog coating on inside of lens. Drop them around your neck if you have to. Should you face plant, shake snow off, NEVER wipe the inside of the lens. Use the supplied storage bag to gently wipe OUTSIDE of lens if you must. I wore them from 9 till 4 in complete comfort for three consecutive days. The Iridium Lens worked fine in low/flat light. Do yourself a favor and drop another $ for the case. Oakley is famous for charging for cases. Great goggle, you will love them.
These goggles were horrible. I had them for 1 year, did my fair share of riding with them and then this year out in Utah they became completely useless to me. Apparently moisture got inbetween the lense and was stuck there, even after drying them out there were smudges that I could not get off because it was between the 2 lenses. This shouldn't be happening after only 1 year. I will never buy Oakley again.
At first I decided to go cheap and get the $20 cheap goggles at a sports authority or Modells. They kept my eyes from watering from all the wind, but I hated them. I bought these about a year ago and they are incredible. Never had a problem, I also have a soft case that is also made for cleaning of the lenses (amazingly handy and cannot live without!). The Jet Black frame and Fire lenses is a killer combo.
I got these this year here in Oregon and went up twice. I could not see my board let alone a tree five feet in front of me. So before I went a second time I got regular amber lens to try that. After every run I would have to stop my friends, take the goggles off my helmet and wipe out the mist and fog that was inside the lens. Before I went up again I gave the Oakleys to one of my friends that had $20 dollar smiths, and I bought a pair of the Anon Theorems with the ionized lenses. I went up had no eyesight problems, no fog or mist problems, I even hit goggle first into a rail and didnt even leave a nick. Dont buy Oakleys, buy Anons.
These are wonderful! No fogging (until I walk inside after being out on the slopes when I forget to take them off and have my hands full). Fits perfectly with my Giro Fuse helmet. Very happy.
I am a returnee to skiing after a couple decades' layoff. I needed goggles. These looked reputable and were discounted. I went skiing for half a day in classic New England conditions--howling winds and blowing snow; bright sunshine and then overcast. I put the goggles on when I stepped out on the slope and never really thought about them for the rest of the day. Which is what was so amazing. They were remarkably solid, superbly comfortable, never even slightly hinted that they were fogging up, and allowed me to completely forget that I had them on--except that I could see perfectly clearly the entire time. They performed equally well in bright as well as grey conditions. When it really started to darken, yellow lenses might have helped more--but these were remarkably adequate considering I don't think they are low-light specific. Having grown up with goggles that were a constant problem, these were a godsend. Especially the comfort part--rock solid in place, secure but gentle. Amazing. I am very glad to have come across them.
I like these goggles a lot. I can't make a total opinion of them yet because I've only used them for 1 weekend but I could tell a lot. First, they fit my face and helmet nicely and look really good. The second day I tried them out there was like a foot of powder and I was booking it. They didn't fog up at all. I love these goggles but Im a little bit angry because I accidentally scratched them with my ski. I am not blaming the goggles though because that would have scratched any pair. I do think the lenses are pretty good with not scratching though. :)
I have been desparately searching for a pair of goggles that do not fog. My search is over. All around simply a great goggle. A bit harsh in storms due to the lenses, but on Bluebird days - can't beat them. Good job Oakley. As for the BackcountryStore.com, what else can I say - you're the best!
These goggles are great. They fit great, look great, and there's almost no fogging. The only problem is that the lenses are very prone to scratches so you have to be very careful with them. Absolutely no rubbing! Only dab if there is moisture. It sucks that these lenses are also so expensive. Other than this lens problem, they are awesome goggles. Why do you think so many pros use them?
I've been using the A-frames with my Giro 9 helmet for years, and I really like the way this set-up fits my small face. I never have fogging issues or problems with wind leaking through the goggle foam. Make sure that you do not wipe out the inside of the goggle lens, because it will ruin the anti-fogging. I also really like the Iridium Lens, which works really well when it's still snowing, but the sun keeps peaking through the clouds.
If your looking for a super deal on the best goggles on the market, I would keep an eye on steepandcheap.com. I love these goggles; the peripheral vision is good and I only find that they fog up under understandable circumstances, like putting them over your vents on your helmet.
My third pair of a frames...hands down, the best snow goggle out, and I've tried a ton of them...great deal too, those guys rule...great customer service!
I bought this goggle thinking it was a great bargain, and it was... sort of. Definitely a great price on very good optics, the Oakley Iridium lens. However, the strap is way too short to fit around a helmet, and I ended up stretching it to its max, goggle painfully squished to my face... you get the idea. After a little retrofitting with a $20 replacement strap, it works better, but it's no longer such a bargain. If you're a helmet wearer, as you should be, try this goggle in person before you commit.
The lens provides nice contrast in overcast skies. It also deflects sun well. The goggles have never fogged up on me.
My first complaint is that the goggles don't fit my face. I have small/medium features and a medium face size. Unless I put the goggles at the very tip of my nose, there is always space between the goggles and my nose. My second complaint is that the band doesn't tighten enough to fit snuggly around my head without a helmet.
These goggles are great. They are comfortable and also perform great. They have never fogged up. I got the fire iridium lenses which are perfect for sunny days, but not good for low light conditions, such as overcast days. Overall, these are the best goggles I've owned in my 14 years of skiing. I also have a big head and face, but they fit perfect despite what the description above states.
The Persimmon lens is great for low & flat light conditions while still protecting your eyes from the glare from the snow. Even if the sun does come out, they are still dark enough to prevent eye strain.
The A-Frames also fit great with my helmet and stay in place thanks to some rubber on the inside of the strap. They don't fog either, which helps a lot.
Out of all of the Oakley goggles, these are the ones I like the most. Classic shape, classic fit. Absolutely perfect.
The slopes are now closed here in Minnesota but got a chance to try out my new black iridium oakleys on the best ski day of the season. 20 plus inches of new snow, bright sunshine, and "bluebird" skies. Great contrast and no glare whatsoever. The a-frames fit my helmet and seal perfectly over my prescription glasses. I own three pairs with a good range of their available lenses and would recommend them to anyone.
OK so i've tried about 3 other brands or so and I just can't say enough how good these fit like like no other. Granted I wear glasses which was why I got the a-frame becasue of the wider sides but even if I didnt wear glasses I would still go with them. Other companies are just cheap and the foam is cheap just not up to par with the a frame goggle.
I originally purchased these for sunny/kind of cloudy days up on the mountains of Colorado. These goggles are cute, yes, I loved the old school Oakley insignia on the strap, and the hot pink color scheme, but I had two problems with them. For one, the strap didn't extend long enough, and they didn't fit over my helmet. Secondly, the lenses were not clear. I saw halos and the sharpness Oakley usually delivers just was not there. Maybe I am picky, but I had better luck with a pair of Scotts I purchased at the mountain after these (sadly) didn't pan out.
These goggles have the Iridium lens which is great in reasonable light conditions. The strap on the goggles is VERY short, so if you're an adult don't think it will reach around a helmet. I substituted a longer strap and all went well. Apparently the Orange frame didn't sell well, as you can get these for less than a set of replacement lenses. Buy them anyway.
These goggles iz phat. The ventleation iz great so dey never fog up. They fit great wiff bern baker helmets too. Im never buying another brand o' ski goggle ag'in. w0rd!
