Osprey Packs Meridian 22 Wheeled Convertible Backpack - 3700cu in - 2007
For weekend getaways, carry on the Osprey Meridian 22 and don't look back. This deluxe wheeled convertible pack's versatility makes it great for active holidays. At the airport, carry this comfortable pack onto your back or stow the padded shoulder straps, expand the retractable ergonomic handle, and roll it to the gate on its polyurethane wheels. When you board, remove the Meridian 22's daypack and stuff the main section into the overhead compartment—internal straps prevent your clothes from coming out looking like crumpled newspaper. At 30,000ft, slip the magazine you've been reading into the daypack's front pocket, remove your laptop from its internal padded sleeve, and enjoy an in-flight movie.
Bottom Line: Head straight to the gate and into vacation-mode with the Osprey Meridian 22in Travel Pack.
Bought if off an online gear site review. really great product. would recommend it highly to anyone. the second backpack snaps on in place really quick and can be taken off fast while standing in the airplane line. well worth the price-you are getting 2 high quality bags. wheels are solid, the whole product is of high quality
This is an awesome product. It fits in overhead bins so you don't have to check it, but it still holds enough for 5-6 days of travel if you pack well. The separate compartments all make sense and I use each of them. The additional backpack is easy to remove and perfect for holding a laptop.
I purchased this pack for a trip to Africa. The size, wheels, and zip-off day pack were appealing as I did not want to check any luggage from MT to Botswana. The size was perfect and the main compartment was user friendly but the day pack was difficult to access without spilling the entire contents. the "kickstand" broke loose when the bush pilot pulled the bag out of the cargo compartment.
Great design, high end materials used..seems very durable. Is it worth the retail price? Probably..but 95% of the world seems to survive ok with luggage 1/3 of the price.
Do you really need a rolley bag with backpack straps? If you think you're going to switch from rolley to pack as you go up & down subway stairs..think again. It takes time to set up the straps & you wouldn't pull the bag with the straps out because they'll drag. You will end up just carrying it up & down stairs like a regular bag because of that. It did come in handy when jumping on a bicycle & throwing it on my back though.
I was denied bringing the pack as a carry on- even after taking the backpack off & trying to carry both. This totally defeated the purpose of having this luggage.
Also, osprey opted to go with no waist strap on the daypack. While it is a comfortable pack..after carrying water/snacks/maps etc for 3 people for a few days..i opted to use the rolley luggage as "the" daypack instead. Which sort of defeated the purpose of having a detachable daypack. (but the added 20L of space is nice over the sojourn version). Also, i'm sure there's some good reasoning into how the daypack compartment was designed..but like the other reviewer, stuff was often spilling out all the time when trying to access stuff.
If it was half the price, i'd be more forgiving..It's an overall good luggage but i have mixed feelings because it didn't meet many of my needs. Hope you can decide better with this review.
This bag fits the bill for a long weekend trip. Great for air travel. Easy to organize and handle. The day pack was great for maps, camera, sun glasses, etc.
I have this piece of luggage for a little over a year and have traveled near and far with it, including Bali for three weeks, in which my luggage got lost, but I was using the backpack as a carry on and it surprisingly held an extra pair of clothes, books, travel purse and other essentials that it doesn't look like it could. Another plus was it was easy to match it to my big piece when the airlines found my luggage four days later. One thing is don't expect the backpack to be the kind of you would use for school or business; it is meant to be used for simple carry-ons. With that said the durability of the overall bag is awesome and the features and ease of use make it worth the extra $$ in my opinion.
