Outdoor Research Transcendent Down Jacket - Men's - 2008

Rise above the cold when you zip up the Outdoor Research Men’s Transcendent Down Jacket. This ultralight layer weighs less than a pound and features cozy 650+-fill goose down. One of the front handwarmer pockets doubles as a stuff sack, making the Transcendent perfect for chilly belay ledges, under a ski shell, or a frigid walk to the neighborhood bar after a day of climbing.

Bottom Line: Transcend the cold.

Warm and Light!

By:
May 8, 2009

Lightweight and it packs small.
Fits well under a gore-tex shell for skiing and cold breaks ski mountaineering.
It kept me warm on cold days ski touring, and the lightweight means it is not a burden to carry!
Good price for a great product that has a lifetime warranty!
Great athletic fit!

I bought this when it was a SAC deal but it's too small.

I bought this when it was a SAC deal but it's too small. Is it possible to exchange for a size up?

Apparently you CAN exchange it, without incurring any extra costs, but you have to do it within 30 days.

Very nice...I like!

By:

My first down jacket came with some heavy pre-qualifications. I wanted something that weighed less than a pound. Check. I wanted something that didn't make me look like a puffy barrel. Check. I wanted a jacket that looked good. Check. I wanted something that could be layered under a shell or worn alone over a sweater or dress shirt for work. Check.

I live in Seattle, so I don't need an uber-warm down jacket for sub-zero days. But I did want a light weight, non-puffy insulating jacket with either a primaloft or down fill. I absolutely love my down comforter and sleeping bag so my mission was to get the same kind of versatile comfort in a jacket. Over-sized banners on aircraft carriers aside: Mission Accomplished. On a side note; whoever answered the question regarding whether or not the fit was athletic obviously does not own this jacket. Regardless of the fill, the fit is very trim and athletic. I wear a Large in pretty much everything in OR gear, but I had to step up to an XL for this jacket to fit through the chest.

I actually own this jacket, and I disagree: it is very much an athletic fit. I normally wear a Large in OR sizing and had to step up to an XL to fit my chest in this jacket. It is down, and puffier than fleece, but it's certainly not Michelin Man-esque.

Awesome Jacket

By:
January 5, 2009

This jacket is great! Its light and packable, yet thick enough and warm enough for those cold Utah winter nights. Its polyester lining really helps you retain wamrth, and the 650+ down filling is fantastic. It has exterior and interior pockets, and its ripstop material really holds up. It also works great for layering when you're night skiing or snowmobiling in cold Island Park. Exellent jacket.

Light Yet Fully Functional

By:
January 2, 2009

Recently purchased this jacket and I think its great. It's super light and fits nice and snug so it's perfect for layering under a gore-tex shell for skiing. Also it stuffs into one of its hand-warmer pockets. This is great for backpacking because you can stuff it into the pack or at night use it as a suuupppper comfy pillow. This jacket is awesome.

This is a great jacket being warm and light. Packs down to a small size for trecking. Not used it yet in a cold climate but it will get a good test in yellowstone at Chrtistmas
