Outdoor Research designed the Men's Mentor Jacket with all the features you need to handle those days in the mountains when the weather decides to test your perseverance. Thanks to the waterproof breathable Gore-Tex Pro shell and fully taped seams, the rain, snow, sleet, and hail won't stand a chance of getting you wet. Seal up the Outdoor Research Mentor Jacket's storm hood and waist-gaiter to keep the howling wind from getting any snow inside this shell. Elbow-to-waist TorsoFlo side zips allow top-notch ventilation when bad conditions give way to warmer temperatures.
Bottom Line: Stand strong in the worst weather when you wear the Outdoor Research Mentor Jacket.
This is the best rain/cold weather coat I've ever bought. Went in the high hills, about 11k feet for a few days of camping, and there was an absolute rainfest happening. Didn't have a choice to take it out in a drenching in the back yard so I gave it a good test. This baby came out like a screaming eagle! I stayed dry as a bone and with the little bit of layering that I did I stayed nice and toasty. There are plenty of vents in case it warms up and really OR thought of every possible necessity and integrated into this jacket. I ended up buying the pants as well so it's a great set. Works perfect with a harness and climbing helmet! You wanna stay dry/warm..... this is the rig!
Very lightweight technical shell, great for climbing and backpacking. Works very well with a harness, the durability seems top notch, the breathability is at best 4 stars but the side zips very easily make up for it..Overall great jacket!!!
The Mentor jacket has definitely exceeded what I thought a jacket could do. It has kept out all wetness and rain. It also ventilates very well. It is amazing at handling weather from hiking to biking to climbing. The side zips on the jacket are very useful and the material is spectacular. All of the zippers are waterproof coated and they perform very well. The other plus of the jacket is it has plenty of room to layer underneath and the hood also fits over my bike helmet and climbing helmet. very good jacket and well worth the money.
The Mentor shell is beautifully tailored with an athletic fit and lower than typical drop hem. The new Gore-Tex Pro fabric is very light and at least in its first season, just as durable as its heavier precursor. The shell's side zips are useful during rope work if you don't want to wear it under your climbing harness. The hood is large even with a helmet: without one it is in your eyes and thus in serious need of a back cinch cord. Notwithstanding, the OR may well be the best value among all of the technical shells.
This shell provides the perfect combination of waterproofness and breathability. You can layer underneath it to provide warmth or you can strip it down for those crazy climbs. The armpit zips are great when wearing a pack. If you want the shell that does everything...choose this one!
Took this shell out on 30 miles of the Appalachian Trail in Virginia. Temps were 20 degrees below average. Kept me warm and dry during wind, sleet, and rain. Vented well even with 40-pounds of pack and two layers underneath (one fleece). A great shell. Glad I bought it.
