Outdoor Research Alibi Glove - 2007

The Alibi Gloves are Outdoor Research's top-of-the-line drytooling gloves designed specifically for high-end leashless climbers. The Alibi Gloves feature neoprene construction reinforced with corded nylon on the back of the hand for added durability. Ultra-thin construction and ultra-sticky palms give these gloves a level of performance that exceeds even bare hands.

Bottom Line: Count on the Outdoor Research Alibi Gloves when you tackle steep, scrappy mixed climbing.

Buyer be ware...

I've climbed in these gloves for several seasons. In my opinion, they're more of a novelty item than a serious piece of equipment. They're not warm enough unless the temps are 20+ and the sun is shining. For steep mixed routes on warm days, they're fun to pull out of your pack and watch your friends sneer. The grip with them is better than the grip bare handed. I picked up 3 pair when they went on sale for $15. I tried all kinds of things- like taping heater packs to my wrists- to use them in a wider range of conditions. On top of that, the gloves durability is not great. I suppose for fall/spring dry tooling they may be excellent- but for true winter conditions, expect to loose digits.

so this is definitely the cheapest place i've found, by far, to find these, but they don't have the black/ grey color scheme. any reason why? or is there an option here i'm not seeing?

Hey Nick,Either they're out or they didn't get that color option in. The best thing to do is jump on "live chat" and ask those folks. They'll be able to find out exactly what the dealio is.

although they perform perfect, having a good cushion for your hand and being warm during the dry season , they have a big flaw: waterproof. they are usseless in realy wet weather or in contact with snow. this are definetly very good sumer ice climbing gloves.

Can this glove also be used for rappel and/or belay?

Belay maybe, rappel no. Well you could, but having the rope run through it in the long term will just shred them. Get something from Black Diamond with a leather palm.

Not Good All Around

Got these for light leashless in NY Catskills and Daks. Always cold. Even on so-so warmer days. They will get wet, if not from climbing, but putting in screws, grabbing the rope, whatever. I eventually sold them.

On a positive, the sticky was superb. But I need warm more than sticky.
