Outdoor Research Meteor Mitten - 2006

The Outdoor Research Meteor Mitts shell / mitten combo make them ideal for backcountry skiing and mountaineering in cold weather. The 300-weight fleece liners provide the insulation needed for brutally cold weather, and they remove for fast drying at night. They also have flip-back flaps to expose your fingers, so you can do fine work while keeping you hands warm. The Meteor Mitts use waterproof breathable Ventia material to keep you hands and the insulation safe from moisture. Outdoor Research added a Toughtek palm for great grip and durability.

Bottom Line: Count on the Outdoor Research Meteor Mitts when you head for the cold mountains.

Cold in Upstate N.Y.

Bought these for my sister-in-law for Christmas. She ALWAYS complains about cold fingers...I always do my research when buying outdoor gear, and so does Outdoor Research. If your hands are cold in these mits it's because you're dead. Some neat features too in case you need to take your hand out to fumble with your ipod or phone. 300 weight fleece is no joke...they usually reserve that fleece jackets to keep your chest cavity warm.

Bought as gift for my husband who works as a pipeline surveyor in extreme temps. They have worked very well for him.

Does just the liner flip back? Or the shell, too? I would hope

Good mitten, good deal

By:

These mittens served me very well while camping / backpacking at temperatures just below 0F. The shell provides true and reliable water proofness and confidence while dealing with snow covered gear and scrambling over snow covered terrain. The inside insulators are fantastically warm. I was generally able to just wear my base gloves and the insulation mittens and stay warm below 0F and only had to add the shells when moisture was a potential issue. The flip-backs have magnets to keep them back and are perfect for dealing with knot-tying, match-striking, and all those little details.
I would recommend this product to family and friends.

Very Warm Mitten

By:

These mittens are super warm. If you have trouble with cold hands get these. I have never while skiing really had the need to have the fleece inserts, just the shell they are so warm. The flip back flap on the fleece is nice especially with the magnets that hold the flaps back. Although I don't like the velcro on the mittens as they tend to want to eat up the fleece if they come into contact with eachother. Otherwise they have plenty of room in the sinch area to go on top of your jacket. If I have to choose I would also say they run a little on the big side but that might be because I only use the shell part.
