Northwave Bike Raptor SBS Bike Shoes - Men's - 2008

Outstanding fit and outstanding grip whether you're hammering the pedals or scrambling up a root section make the Northwave Men's Raptor SBS a superb choice for mountain bikers at all levels. The Step-By-Step (SBS) instep buckle adjusts tighter or loosens up with the touch of a lever for fine-tuning mid-ride, and the Y-shaped heel counter banishes heel slip forever. When portaging and scrambling are the only available options, you'll appreciate the carbon-infused-rubber Jaws outsole, and the screw-in cleat option for winter rides.

Bottom Line: Seize the trail with tenacious grip and precision fit in the Northwave Raptor SBS.

As I look over various sites for some cycling shoes, the sizing charts vary considerably! The Backcountry chart equates an American 11 with a Euro 44. By contrast Randall Scott provides a chart that equates a Euro 44 to 9.5. My prior experience (hazy memory) tells me to believe the Randall Scott....I'm interested in the NW MTB shoe at backcountry. But what size?

Northwave sizes sorta vary from year to year, but for 09 they equate a 44 to a US Men's 11. Others have found sizing down a half size or so to be a good way to go with this brand's current fit. Maybe you should get a couple sizes and return the one that doesn't fit. KC

Best shoes there is

As usual Northwave delivers the best shoe there is. If you have high volume feet these are the best. I ride both the road and mtn shoes. Have never found another brand that fits better. And no I don't have fat feet just slightly wider than normal and I think much wider then the typical european sidi sizes for.

I currently have some Northwave shoes, but have no idea what

I currently have some Northwave shoes, but have no idea what size they are. They are delaming at the heel and have given me many epic rides worth of use. I wear a 9.5-10 depending on the manufacturer, so I figure the ones I have are a 42.5 or 43. Whatever they are they fit great and want some new ones but I need to know what size I currently have. How do I go about figuring that out... mm tape measure?

The funny thing about shoes is that the cuts vary from every individual shoe. Seriously. It's kind of annoying.I'd recommend ordering both sizes, trying them on, and seeing how they really fit. Backcountry's return policy lets you return the ones that don't fit at any time.

Width

Ordered these, hoping for a good fit. I wear a size 12 street shoe and the 46 was the right length...but these shoes are gigantor wide. I have a narrow foot but I was floating in these things, they must be at least an E width shoe. Really nice quality shoe though, just not my fit.

All cycling shoes use European sizing. It is confusing at first, especially since US sizing has a lot of variance. Really, the best thing to do in go into a bike shop and try on every shoe you can that's anywhere near your size (based on a conversion chart). Since there are so many sizes in the sizing system, there is a lot more accuracy between manufacturers; but nonetheless, shoes of different makes fit differently. After you get a feel for it, you'll be a more informed consumer. The best cycling shoe is the one that fits snugly but comfortably, without exception. Also, Northwave shoes have a roomy/wide toebox. Good for wider feet but bad news if your feet are narrower than average.
