New Balance 909 Trail Running Shoe - Women's

The New Balance Women’s 909 Shoes makes trail running gentler on your feet. Lace up your 909s, and notice how the laces pull the N-Lock webbing snug for a midfoot-hugging fit. When you get on the hard-packed trail, you might feel lighter than usual because Abzorb foam cushioning in the midsoles disperses impact forces, which reduces shock to your heels, ankles, and knees. As you climb into the foothills and the trail gets covered in rocks and roots, you’ll barely notice the terrain change, thanks to Rock Stop 2 midsole plates and rubber toe bumpers that protect your soles and piggies. Water-resistant uppers with wicking liners and mesh windows help your feet stay dry and cool.

Bottom Line: Running shoes for your hard-working feet.

I would hesitate to say that all New Balance runs narrow, it really depends on the last that is used as well as the materials used in construction. On the WT909OR, the combination of our SL-1 last and the TPU on the toe creates a fuller fitting toe box. This is great for toe splay as well as swelling when running. If you have "really narrow feet" as you mentioned, I would recommend tracking these down in a 2A width instead. I think this would come closer to providing you with the proper fit for which I am sure that you are looking. Backcountry should be able to order them from New Balance if they are not in stock.

New Balance runs narrow ALWAYS....I have wider feet and can never even come close to wearing New Balance ANYTHING...so I would think they are made for you!

Very comfortable & sturdy shoe

Bought these shoes a few weeks ago, very happy with purchase. They run true to NewBalance fit (i.e. I wear a 9 in Nike, 8.5 in Adidas, and 9.5 in NewBalance).

Haven't tested the water resistant element yet, but I will say they are breathable which is nice.

They keep my heels in place which is great for someone like me with wobbly ankels. Fairly lighteight considering they're durable trail running shoes. I like trail running shoes so much better than hiking shoes because they have the same benefits without looking clunky and you can wear them to the gym (I even wear mine at my indoor volleyball matches).

What's the biggest difference between this shoe and the New Balance 875 trail running shoe?

Hi Kelly,
There a few things that separate the 909 from the 875. The 909 was intended to be a "bigger" shoe with more support in the upper than the 875 as a result of the N-Lock webbing system, more overlays and an asymmetric design that provides added medial support. To go with the added structure of the upper, the soleunit of the 909 features 2 layers of foam. The top layer is a low density, high cushion foam. The bottom layer (red in the photo) is a higher density, less cushioned foam that is stiff enough to provide forefoot protection, midfoot stability and bilateral heel support. The 875 doesn't feature any additional support features as it is intended for a runner with a neutral gait. With all the added features, the 909 is intended for a runner looking for some added stability. The trade-off is weight though as the 909 does weigh more but you get added protection and support that provides some runners with added confidence on more aggressive terrain. Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any more questions.
