Necky Looksha 12 Kayak

You want a light craft that won’t wimp out when you hit the occasional rock along the shore. A bow that doesn’t submarine when you hit a wave would be nice too. Necky built the Looksha 12 Kayak with a durable PolyLite material and a high-volume bow. Since seat comfort makes the difference between pleasant hours on the water and torturous back and butt pain, Necky gave the Looksha’s seat back lumbar-angle adjustment, back-height adjustability, and a seat pan that won’t squish your legs together. Adjustable thigh braces increase comfort and keep the gunnel from digging into your thighs.

Bottom Line: If only your office chair were that adjustable.

Thinking about getting the Looksha 12si is there any difference

Thinking about getting the Looksha 12si is there any difference in the two (The Looksha 12 and the Looksha si) ? They say the other (12 SI) is scaled down for smaller paddlers. I am over 200 lbs and sat in a SI for fit and was told it was big enough in the areas it needed to be felt OK Tighter than others we have rented . Any thoughts

Pleasant Surprise

By:
June 22, 2009

My style of kayaking is changing now that I am older. Living in southwest Florida I have opportunities for exploration of the vast ecosystem of mangroves and off shore keys. I was looking for a new kayak that would be easy to maneuver as well as tough enough to get to the various keys that were a few miles from shore in deep water. I tested the Looksha 12 at a kayak event that is held annually in Captiva and liked how it handled. I ordered one.

What a surprise. It handles like a dream. I am surprised how fluid it is and the way it responds in turns and tight situations. In the mangroves are many tunnels that open to large open water which my larger kayaks were hard to navigate through. Since the Looksha is only12' long it goes through easily. The second outing I was running slightly ahead of a large rainstorm which developed quickly. The water in the pass became choppy with waves of about 2 to 3'. It glided through easily and quickly.

I plan to kayak the new Calusa Blueway, a marked trail from St. Petersburg to the Florida Keys in the fall and I have total confidence with the Looksha 12.

By the way. Ordering from Backcountry was hassle free.

We're going nuts trying to pick out kayaks that work for

We're going nuts trying to pick out kayaks that work for us. We both liked the Manitou 14 but neither one of us feel the need for the skeg (liked how the boat handled with it up). So it doesn't make sense to buy those since they take up cargo space. Any suggestions?
