Naxo Low Fat Climbing Skins - 2006

The Backcountry Access Low Fat Climbing Skins take you and your pow skis higher and farther thanks to lightweight, packable materials. The extremely durable hydrophobic synthetic material fends off glop and skin-freezing moisture better than mohair, making any spring ascent a breeze. Fold these supple polyurethane skins up easily and toss them in your jacket to keep them warm between yo-yo's without the hassle of major bulk. Store the Backcountry Access Low Fat Climbing Skins in their stuff sack between tours and customize them to your fatties with the no-hassle trim kit.

Bottom Line: The Backcountry Access Low Fat Climbing Skins give you all the flavor of the back country, without the guilt.

cheaper = no good

The only good point about there skins is the tip and tail attachment: hold really well, easy to put on and off the skis no matter what type of skis. They wear out really fast, the glue doesn't stick to the ski at low temperature but it still leave some residues on my base, doesn't grip on wind crust. Invest more money if you can, you wont regret it.

Low Fat Skins

By:
October 4, 2006

These skins are fairly average. Biggest problem is they 'ball up' when things are sticky. First time I took them out I had kilos of snow stuck to the bases. Ridiculous. Same day my friend was borrowing my very old and very tired skins and had none of these problems. These skins also looked worn and got fuzzy quickly. Attachment and glue were good. They are also a little heavier than G3 or BD skins. Best left on the shelf.

So far so good - a BC Jong review

By:
May 25, 2007

I'm a total BC JONG so take this for what its worth. This is my first pair of skins and so far they are great. I only have one day on them - not too cold, not gloppy - basic spring conditions.
The included instructions made it easy to cut/trim the skins to fit my 188 Bro-Models and the included tip/tail hooks work well on these semi-twin skis. Now I just need to get out there more and perfect my kick turns and learn to remove the skins without removing my skis.
The skins are back in their included storage back with the plastic protectors on them and they'll stay there for the summer. Hopefully we'll get more snow next season than we did this year so I get to use them more.

Okay, but not great

By:
September 20, 2006

I've had these skins for 1.5 seasons and they've served me okay. Definitely not great. Here are some pros/cons of the skins: GRIP: They stick really well on the uphills, but don't glide very well on the flats and downhills. ICING: They ice up, but are reasonably easy to clean and dry out. GLUE: Sticks to itself really well - you've got to be strong to get them apart. Otherwise, the glue is so-so at sticking to the skis. The skins tend to peel away from the skis after a while, but the tip and tail hardware work well to keep this from being too much of a problem. TIP/TAIL HARDWARE: Great - definitely the highlight of the skins. They stay on well and are quick and easy to put on. DURABILITY: Mediocre - They're already fraying. In comparison, a friend of mine bought her Black Diamond Guide Lite skins (the ones with the blue cow spots on them) at the same time and has done the same trips as I have. Her skins glide much better, don't ice up as much, and look as new as when she bought them. The tail attachment on the Guide Lites sucks, though. Next time, I'm buying Black Diamond skins.
