One minute BPA studies find to be harmless, the next minute it's poison. Let the scientists have their debates while you sip from the BPA-free Nalgene Wide Mouth Tritan Bottle. This Backcountry-emblazoned bottle gives you 32-ounces of drinking pleasure. Nalgene made this dishwasher-safe Eastman Tritan copolyester bottle right here in the good ol' USA. For the paranoids out there: Recycling code #7=further proof it's doesn't have BPA.
I have a few of these bottles and I take one of them with me where ever I go. I couldn't break one if I tried.
My little brother and his friends actually tried to destroy one as part of a school project gone horribly wrong a few years ago... They filled it up, ran it over with a jeep, threw it off a roof onto a concrete driveway, tossed it out of a moving car, and nothing seemed to stop it. They bottle did unfortunately meet it's end when they filled it with gunpowder and shot it with a rifle.
I thought recycle #7 was bad - meaning BPA??? Can anyone clear this up? This bottle doesn't say BPA-free on it anywhere but can I still assume it is so?
#7 is the "other" category, meaning a wide range of materials can fall within it. The Tritan material Nalgene uses is a copolyester and does not contain BPA. Also, the last sentence of the product description may use poor grammer, but it still says: "it's doesn't have BPA."
This bottle is great for anything. Whether its going to the gym or hiking the appalachian trail this bottle is a great fit for all of it. A lot of water filters are actually coming with a specific adapter for the nalgene bottle so the use of it is growing more and more everyday

I just bought the Guyot designs splashguard from Sierra Trading Post. It was only a few bucks, but since it is discontinued the only styles left have some silly printing on them (I settled for an alien head on mine).
You want a Guyot Designs Splashguard, but they're no longer manufactured. REI and such might still have them in stock, so have a look around, but otherwise I think you're SOL.
I have a couple of these. They are tough as nails and I take one on every trip. I use mine for water, wine, gatorade. Once, while on the trail, I filled it with huckleberries (used the next morning for pancakes).
Mine has BPA & yours doesn't! I put MSG in my water too, so it's extra delicious. Ok, so maybe I don't, but let's all go out and buy new water bottles anyway! These things are virtually indestructable and last forever. An absolute necessity.
Keeps my water wet and my oatmeal dry and does a damn fine job at it, and the wicked goat lets me advertise for backcountry.com while I'm hydrating. everybody wins!!!
This thing's just like any other Nalgene where it is extremely durable and has many uses. But the only downside is after some uses the paint will easily come off, which can make it tricky to read the ounces when you're trying to get a good mixing ratio.
Nalgene water bottles have been classics in the outdoor industry for years and always will be. Even with new innovative stuff like the Platypus water bottles (which are nice) the Nalgene bottles are still a hit. Virtually indestructible, you can do many things with them. You can eat your freeze dries meal in it and can put boiling water in it without the fear of it melting. If its cold you can boil water and tuck it in your sleeping bag with you. If you are new to the outdoors or just dont have one of these bottles I suggest getting one. You won't regret it.
Great bottle, you can't beat the durability and having the liter/ OZ table on the side makes it great for measuring water for cooking while backpacking. Plus, the wide mouth make it easy to clean after mixing up some tasty libations.
It's the typical Nalgene wide mouth bottle but that's what makes it so great. I've dropped it several times on the cement ground (good 4 foot drop) and also on the rocky dirt trail. It's held up to many beatings with a few scratches but not once has it ever leaked or anything. Everyone should have one really...
This is unbreakable. The marks are very useful to measure volume while cooking. Holds well all contents from rhum and coke to solid food (water too). This model (1l with wide opening) is the most versatile and easy to clean. A camping classic.
BPA came. And now it's gome. And it's easier than ever to "go green" by refilling this baby instead of buying bottled water. I keep filled ones in my car, gym bag and office desk. Stay hydrated, BPA-free, and save cash on the disposable bottles.
You will lose this bottle well before you manage to find a way to break it.
Can be used for everything from a pillow (or at least neck support) to a mallet to drive tent stakes in - all while holding your favorite liquid w/o retaining flavors
I will never buy another water bottle. I've been carrying a large mouth nalgene bottle for years, and never had a problem with any of them. The only reason I ever have to buy a new one is when I accidentally leave one in any one of the places I bring it to each day. Why not splurge and support your favorite retailer? If anything, it starts conversations to friends not knowledgeable of BC.
Not only will mine take a fall from a rock face and not leak...it will mix up a mean batch of Jell-O shots and not get any of that dye all over you! Really...try it sometime!
Initially I thought the bottle was a little expensive, but now I think this is worth it. The bottle is very durable and the plastic is of high quality. The cap is also great and doesnt allow water to drip. The bottle looks great! One thing though, the mouth is a little wide and could result in spill if you drank too fast...if so, go for a narrow mouthed bottle. However, in any case this is a good value for money.
I carried two of these on a 150+ mile backpacking hike on the Ice Age Trail. Tough and light, the Nalgene container does the job when it comes to filling, drinking and using a water sterilization tool like the Steripen. Only knock -- Backcountry's printed logo and more importantly, measuring scale, abraded away in less than two weeks.
Tough and I have never had one leak. Easy to clean. I got a few when I started backpacking but they got cut when I started shaving weight (a 1 liter platypus weighs 1/10 of one of these). If you use these, consider getting a cookpot/cup that slides over the end of the bottle to save space in your pack.
I hold two of these on my pack and they get HEAVY when filled to the brim. But water is a main priority when backpacking so I can't complain about that. These things rock! They seal 100% tight without a drip of water. They work with the msr miniworks which imo is the most convenient waterfilter on the market and they are wide enough to use as a pee bottle in the winter when you just don't want to go outside in the middle of a -20 degree night to pee. If they ever break in the future i'll be buying them again.
