Will the nalgene neoprene Bottle Sleeve fit the backpacker? Probably not the standard 38oz'er since its capacity is greater...

the 38oz bottle is actually the same size physically as the 32oz plastic nalgene bottles, the extra capacity is due to the metal bottle being substantially thinner and the fact that the capacity is measured to the brim whereas the plastic bottles capacity is measured quite a bit lower.

No funk.

By:
March 30, 2009

First off, the lack of the plastic taste I've grown accustomed to is a very nice change and the absence of funk is also a plus. The bottle is the same size and shape as its plastic cousins, but it weighs a bit more. I have a couple gripes about the lid rope though. You can't remove it without cutting the sucker off which is a bummer because this would be a great ultralight pot when all you need to do is boil water. Also, if you get a little dirt in the loop around the bottle, the rope doesn't twist freely with the cap but rather, it gets caught in the threads and that gets to be a pain when you're looking to take the cap off again. Other than that, it's a good bottle that doesn't carry the taste of the last drink at all so there's no need to worry about your water tasting like coffee for the next week and a half.

Yes, the lid will definitely fit with a broken string. Taking the mantle off a retired rope and placing it over the string adds great aesthetics and protection! If it ever breaks or you loose the cap, you can get a new one on the nalgene website.

Thoughts on a water bottle that you may or may not buy.

By:
April 6, 2009

While nothing can be "dent-free" this bottle can certainly take a hit. The steel this bottle uses is significantly thicker than that of my old Klean Kanteen. Only time will tell just how "dent-free" it truly is.

NO BPA/Need a Coozy

By:

Overall a great bottle, but since stainless steel is a good conductor HOT/COLD transfer to your hand rather easily. THis is not a big issue for me so I am completely satisfied with my purchase. AND it just looks tuff

Is the no-dent claim for real? Will this, unlike other stainless bottles, not dent if you drop it on rocks? Is it thicker than other bottles? I like the classic shape.

yeah, don't think the no-dent thing will stand...

I ordered a backpacker version and it came with multiple dents and the shipping box did not have anything that indicated the box was mishandle. Returned it and order another backpacker and same thing... a dent on the bottle without any apparent trauma to the box. Got it third one on order and hope it doesn't come with a dent.

Have the standard version and it came without a dent. However, poured left over coke from those 2L bottles in and screw the cap with o ring to prevent CO2 lost... went to get it later from the fridge and the coke's CO2 pressure was enough to pop the originally concave bottom out... you can press on the bottom to pop it back, but still, don't think anything that'll pop that easily can be very dent-proof.

Given normal use you shouldn't have any problems with denting. With that said any stainless bottle if dropped from high enough or thrown hard enough when full of water will most likely show some kind of damage or dent (unless its made of titanium!). Keep in mind that Backcountry has a 100% satisfaction guarantee so if you had any problems with the bottle we've got you covered.

This is a great wide mouth bottle. It keeps stuff cold a little longer and it cleans out super easily. The lid is also attached by a neat rope so you won't lose it on your hike or just around.
