Mountain House Scrambled Eggs w/ Bacon - Breakfast Entree
Now you can bring the eggs. Mountain House's Precooked Scrambled Eggs with Bacon yields enough for two, half-cup servings. It's the easy way to make breakfast. Just add boiling water to the pouch and watch the sun come up while you eat.
Bottom Line: Eggs that come in an unbreakable shell.
These are pretty good. The bacon is crisp. Make sure to pour out excess water so the eggs aren't too runny. Pretty good flavor. Not bad for coming out of a package. Very recommended to getting an early start on the trail.
This is a good fast breakfast for hikers especially after 2 or 3 months of mostly cereal bars and poptarts. They taste pretty good, not something I would make for other people to eat at my house but I have had an empty pantry and cooked these before and they are great
I have to admit, this breakfast item is pretty good. These eggs are even better served on the regular size, flour tortillas & a little salsa to make breakfast tacos. Just add boiling water, wait @ least six minutes, pour out any remaining liquid, & enjoy. No cooking necessary. Makes four good-sized tacos.
Actually the MH Scrambled Eggs with Bacon do taste better then MRE's. The plain scrambled eggs breakfast is horrid. In my opinion the the MH Scrambled Eggs with Ham, Green & Red peppers is the best. Serve those up with flour tortillas & you have a very filling & tasty breakfast.
This was one of our favorites for breakfast. The eggs aren't bad but it's not like you're willing to pack in fresh eggs either. The key with them is to give them ample time to cook and then drain the excess water. The bacon turned out great! All in all this was a really good meal and one we'll mark as a keeper.
I was previously wary of these breakfast type meals. Tried them on my last two trips and was pleasantly surprised. By far the best of the mountain house meals. Trick is to make sure you drain the water off properly to ensure the eggs aren't soggy. Certainly appreciated the sodium overdose on multi-day trips, and the taste is pretty good.
tastes pretty much like bacon and eggs. high sodium content though. like the cook in the pouch method, not crazy about the pouring off the exess water step, kind of messy and I don't like to draw critters if I dont have to. bag said serving for one, and it is very large portion for one and I'm a big eater, so if that's your objective, it's a plus. Bacon nice and crunchy.
No, the taste is not worth the effort or the weight. You can do a lot better than these soggy eggs and too salty bacon. Bring something else for breakfast.
None of the breakfasts quite match up to the dinners, but this one is easy, and really does taste like bacon and eggs. Not like fresh, but does have the right flavor for rehydrated food. This one only requires soaking in hot water and then pouring excess out. Much easier than the scrambles/omeletes. And to me, more exciting than boring oatmeal.
This is my first time trying out Mountain House food. It's not like real bacon and eggs but it's edible. You get a pretty good 1 serving size. A more backpack friendly design of the package would be a plus.
I left the extra water in the packet and ate this meal as a thick soup . It was very good . The instructions tell you to drain the extra water ! Well , duh , I am trying hard to re-hydrate at 11,000 feet in winter so I left the extra water in the packet . I now keep a good supply of this breakfast feast at home for my trips. It was very good and sustained me for several hours . Two packs may be better for a really long time until lunch !
This isn't my favorite, but when you're looking for variety and calories, this does the job. The consistency of the eggs was weird, but it went down easy enough. The other egg and ham breakfast is better.
It did the job, the taste was ok at best and it was runny no matter what you do. It was good to have on the weekend trip and I would get it again. Just don't get it and expect it to be the same as if you were at home
While these do not taste just like home-cooked, they still hit the spot. They do indeed taste like eggs (although the consistency is a little different), and you can also taste the bacon. When I am on the trail, my body screams for protein, and this is a nice change from beef jerky, nuts and food bars.
Pretty good for a fast, easy trail breakfast. I let the bag sit opened for about 6 minutes and the extra water had evaporated, so I didn't think it was too soggy or too salty. Good size portion for one person.
My friends made fun of me for bringing these - they said there was no way it would taste like real eggs and bacon. Not only is it about as close as you can get, but my friends were drooling as I ate my delicious bacon & eggs and they munched on granola bars with peanut butter. I never go camping without at least one as a morning treat.
Good it tastes great and is very east to make. Try and make it in the pan if possible or put it in a dish and add the water. This mixes better thus tasting a lot better. A great relief from granola and oatmeal.
These are ok if you drain them, but bring a tortilla and some hot sauce and they are pretty good ala bk burrito. I even got my girlfriend to approve them, which is not an easy sell!
When its in the mid 20's and you pair it with coffee, this breakfast beats the hell out of a power bar. If you are not crazy about removing the excess water, you can just drink it at the end, as I did when I only read the instructions long enough to read water amount. I'll be bringing the eggs with me at least once on all my hikes.
It's a little bit more like egg corn puffs, but they're actually pretty darn good. I suppose the puffed dry eggs serve to keep them together while steeping and keep them from ending up like oatmeal. The final texture is pretty good. Would definitely get them again.
Way too salty for my taste. The breakfast burrito sounds good, might help with the salt. It does work as a quick meal in the morning with little mess. Texture and flavor are not bad.
My first mistake was to confuse American and British ounces. Yes, then I had to drain. Now I use the Jetboil base as a cup measure and with a thermal cover find the eggs are ready after I've eaten my Oatmeal and fruit without needing to drain any, and my coffee is ready at the same time Havn't fancied the Mt. House Chili (bland!!)but I carry the eggs Boil -set eggs aside fit thermal cover Boil - mix oatmeal - and eat Boil - make coffee - eggs now rehydrated
I usually take at least one of these on trips. Good source of protein, and a nice option from oatmeal. I suggest letting them "cook" for about 5 minutes longer than what is suggested, and even giving it a few stirs throughout the cook time.
These eggs are surprisingly good. They have a slightly odd consistency, but so do all eggs that have been dehydrated. They are a welcome change after oatmeal of cold cereal on an extended backpack.
