Mountain House Neapolitan Ice Cream Bar

Mountain House's Neapolitan Ice Cream Bar is a crunchy, ready-to-eat dessert. It's a freeze-dried ice cream bar made to take on the trail. It doesn't require any preparation and you can pretend you're orbiting the earth while eating your astronaut food.

Bottom Line: The only on-trail cure for ice cream cravings.

Ice Cream Anyone?

By:

Freeze-dried ice cream? I tried it and it's actually good. A little weird feeling in your mouth until it starts to melt. Then it tastes just like, well...melted ice cream. Kinda cool and always a conversation starter.

I feel like an Astronaut.

By:
November 18, 2008

This tasted just like ice cream, and had a really nice texture once it melted in my mouth. I felt like an astronaut when I ate it, which was fun. I probably wouldn't carry it on every trip, but for a few delicious extra calories, it's a good way to go.

Excellent

I've enjoyed this stuff ever since I was a little kid, and I continue to enjoy it today. The sweetness goes so well after a long day on the trail and a hot meal. And on top of that, you never have to wait for it to cook or set up. Does have a little bit of a buttery taste, but I think that is what I love.

surprise!

It does taste like ice cream. It looks weird, it seems weird, it IS weird. But when you put it in your mouth and let it "melt" a bit, it sure passes for ice cream...at least it does in the backcountry!

Surprisingly, this was really good. Not Baskin Robbins or anything, but the flavor was very good! If you are looking to pack something sweet with you this is what you need!

The Best Food of All Time

Reminded me of the gift shop at the Air and Space Museum in DC. Real live astronaut ice cream in my backpack? Awesome. The chocolate is good enough, the vanilla is super tasty, and you better win the arm wrestling match if you want the strawberry. It rules.

Try This Treat!!

September 10, 2008

Got this for a 10 day packing trip that involved a Float Plane to our site. We HAD to pack in all food, and keep weight heavily in mind. Got this for a treat, and was not disappointed! It was really really tasty. Surprisingly tasted JUST like ice cream (after it rehydrated in my mouth :) I suggest this to anyone needing a treat on the trail.

This, like the other Mountain House Ice Cream, was awesome. Each flavor had an individual taste that was actually really good. It put a smile on my face after a long 16 mile day carrying 35 lbs :)
