There's nothing like a little comfort food after a long day of hiking. Mountain House's Freeze Dried Beef Stroganoff meal for two is just like mom used to make only it's lighter, tastier, and well, you have to make it on your own. It comes in a foil package that stands up on its own for easy eating and cooking.
Bottom Line: Because you can't bring mom on every backpacking trip.
Probably the tastiest "dried food" meal out there. I tested it at home, then bought two more for a 5 day excursion in the Wind River Range. Way more flavor than the old days! This one's a no-brainer
The Romanov's might not have approved but when you're hungry, almost anything tastes good including this version of the classic 1861 dish. Even the marmots seemed to have enjoyed it. After gorging themselves on my backpack, they still had some room left for the MH Beef Stroganoff meal that I didn't finish. True story!
Out of all the Mountain House meals, this one seems to fill me the most. It's not my favorite for taste, but it's not bad. You can't go wrong with most of Mountain House meals.
Makes a satisfying meal. Just boil water and dump it in the foil package. Wait a few minutes and serve. Noodles have nice bulk and the flavor is pretty good for freeze dried. The teen age boys in our group gave it a thumbs up. Only draw back is the carrying out the packaging.
sometimes when I eat these I feel like I am at a restaurant but maybe because I just hiked 12 miles with a 38 pound pack. This one is my favorite. not quite 2 servings but I just bring along some instant potatoes or veggies or eat it myself.
Stroganoff is my favorite flavor. Consider repackaging to save weight. At the end of a long day treking, climbing, & clawling; your body is calling out for the calories. You'll swear the Stroganoff is the best thing you've ever tasted. I'm a big active guy and I eat two servings for dinner. One serving makes a pretty good breakfast too.
Obviously, this is not gourmet, but on the trail it certainly hits the spot. It is actually tastier than most other freeze-dried meals I have eaten, and is very filling. The 2 serving pack could be a big meal for one person, or a meal for two smaller or less-hungry people. I have found that 2 2-serving packs work well for 3 adults.
I always bring beef stroganoff on my backpacking trips. If for some strange reason I don't eat the meal while out on a trip, it is always a thrill cooking it in the luxury of my apartment :)
Mountain House food is the best tasting out there. The beef stroganoff is great. My wife and 2-year-old gobbled it up. It truly doesn't seem to anything but fresh made. Youll like it.
