When the wind howls so loud you can barely hear your partner back at the belay, pull on the Mountain Hardwear Micro Dome Beanie. This fitted microfleece beanie features a Windstopper liner for windproof protection and stout weather resistance in demanding alpine conditions.
Bottom Line: Windproof your dome with this beanie.
Avoid. Windstopper doesn't breathe worth spit for active sports like skiing, hiking or jogging. I own this & M.Hardwear's Dome Perignon, and never wear them, because I own two vastly superior "Windpro Hardface" hats (one by Outdoor Research and one by REI). Windpro hardface sheds water better than any fleece, and ounce-for-ounce my OR & REI hats offer all of the warmth, comparable windproofness, and breathability several orders of magnitude better than any Windstopper fabric. Don't believe the Gore hype machine. A hat like this may be fine for standing around, or for casual wear by folks who simply don't sweat, but once you've tried a *real* breathable fabric like Windpro you'll never go back.
This hat really has it all. The lightweight, breathable comfort of fleece with the warmth and wind protection of a thick, itchy wool hat. I often stayed away from fleece hats because they tended to be too thin and stretched out too easily. With the windstopper material inside, this hat is super warm, windproof, and maintains its shape great. I use this hat for everything from winter trail runs to keeping my noggin warm on cold nights sleeping outdoors. I just wish they'd offer some cooler colors. I have an older model which is red with a black rim around the bottom.
When you know that you lose nearly all your body heat through your head, you've got to have something good to keep it in when the temps are dropping. Head, this is Micro Dome w/ WindStopper. Micro Dome, this is Head. I cannot express with enough satisfaction my adoration for this beanie. It's lightweight, keeps you warm when it's wet, and you do NOT feel the biting, cold, wintry winds whilst wearing it. I slept in it every cold night out on the AT and every morning I would wake up alive. Get one.
Looks quality and comfy, but it swallowed my head. I have a small head, but this is the biggest beanie I've ever seen. If you have a large melon go for it. I probably need a size small, on the tag it said regular. Had to send it back.
I use it for keeping my head warm on and off the bike. Decent wind protection and the fleece is nice. I thought it a bit bulky under my cycling helmet. Works good and I would recommend for multiple uses.
This hat is warm and comfortable, but very large. I used it for mountain climbing and it was great. I recommend this product, but know that it is much larger than most beanies.
Basically, this hat sucks, in terms of functionality. Ok, so it works as a lid on the top of your head, has a windproof layer, and is actually warm. But the moment that you want to pull it down over your ears (as in most of the time when its really cold) the hat restricts your vision, and feels cumbersome. Of course, if you like the "Cat-in-the-Hat" look, with the lid balanced on the top of your head, or the "Mushmouth" look with the lid pulled down over your ears, then you are going to love this hat. Otherwise, steer clear...
