Mountain Hardwear Wicked Lite T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Whether you’re into trail running, mountain biking, climbing, or trekking, the Mountain HardWear Men’s Wicked Lite T-Shirt brings big-time performance in a whisper-light package. Wicked Taper mesh fabric wicks moisture when you start to sweat, and it dries quickly after a high-energy workout. With a natural Chitosan anti-microbial treatment, this tee won’t bring the funk after a long day on the trails, and the athletic fit gives you the room to move without getting in your way.

Bottom Line: Super light-tastic.

Love this shirt, probably my favorite active top to wear. Pair it with the long sleeve version underneath and it becomes super functional on days when you want a little more warmth but it still breathes incredibly. Some people dont like the flimsy thin feel but I love it. I like feeling like i'm not wearing anything when i'm doin strenuous activities. Only wish they were a teeny hair shorter in length and wish it was a little more durable.Only thing i've noticed is it gets little snags where the shoulder straps on my hydration pack rub it on rides. I've since gone to a different top layer for rides and use the Wicked Lite stuff for Hiking, running type stuff.....and for that it is incredible.

Older Wicked Tees were made with Kool Knit. 100% poly that is used all over the industry in many different applications. The new fabric is the Taper Mesh which is essentially a more tightly woven Kool Knit. Either way they both have odor control in the form of Chitosan... and dry super fast. Cheers!

Light weight worker

By:
May 28, 2009

This is a nice weight for hot summer days. I am wearing it for workouts in 100+ temps and it is doing well. After several washes it does not seem to have faded nor is it getting pulls or unraveling. Thumbs up.

How does this compare to the Velocitee fabric from North Face?

How does this compare to the Velocitee fabric from North Face? I really like the lightweight, silky feel of the Velocitee. I have to be careful to keep the velcro on my weight gloves from brushing against it, because it will snag fairly easily. This seems like Mountain Hardwear's version. Is that accurate?

Killer shirt, very lightweight

By:
October 15, 2009

I just really love this shirt. It is very thin and lightweight and breathes and wicks well. I really liked the old wicked tees, but they snag so very easily. OTOH, the MH wicked light shirt does not end up snagged if I brush against a bush or wash it with clothing with velcro pockets. It fits true-to-size, and is less baggy (and a little longer) than the older wicked tees, but it would not be considered fitted. This is great for hot climates or aerobic activities, but also is very comfortable as a thin baselayer. Highly recommended!

I got this for my bro-in-law for hiking and work. He works for a contracting firm and is often in environments that are around 120deg. He says the shirt rocks. He also uses it to run in. Here in the Deep South the heat index approaches 110deg with high humidity frequently. The shirt works as advertised.

I love MHW wicked tees but hated how they snagged and pulled

I love MHW wicked tees but hated how they snagged and pulled so easily..does this version rectify that problem while wicking and wearing as well as the old version?

This fabric is different than in the old wicked tees. It has essentially a finer weave that does not 'pick' as easily as in the old wicked tees and is a little more durable. It also has a slightly softer hand. Hope this helps!

Didn't love it

By:
August 20, 2009

Bought some Columbia, North Face, and Mountain Hardware shirts, and these were definitely my least favorite. The stitching is ugly and makes it look like you're wearing it inside out, and the mateerial is very flimsy and satiny. Feels like lingerie, not a shirt. I won't buy any more of these and will stick with Columbia and North Face.

pretty much naked

By:

this shirt is so light you can barely feel it. very soft smooth material, works well with backpack straps. From what I can tell it dries pretty fast. At least it is the fastest drying shirt I have. I bought 4 more, sleeveless, long sleeve and two more short sleeves in other colors. I wear them for working out, running, camping, hiking-pretty much everything. Usually I work them into the weekly rotation for my everyday wear once or twice a week as well.

Wicked Lite Shirt

Got a bunch of these on sale. Great fit, very light. 5'10'' 190lb Large great fit. Problem is they funk up the same way any other tech tee does. Maybe i'm really stinky, but the Chitosan anti-micro treatment doesnt really do all that much in my experiences with these shirts.

i like these- super dry

By:
July 14, 2009

had a chance to compare these to some very light wool t-shirts on a recent backpack trip. temps were in the high 80's and we we're hauling too much stuff up a long way....
this shirt kept me totally dry, even on my back. in contast, the super light wool t-shirts were soaking wet below my pack.
my only complaint, and the reason for only 4 stars- this shirt started to pill where my pack was rubbing in the middle of my back.

So far, the best shirts I have found

By:
September 24, 2009

I travel constantly, these shirts pack lite, stay clean, keep me cool and dry strangely quick. I get the black ones, which hide all stains short of baby drool : ) Not too expensive. One very important characteristic: they do not seem to snag like most other synth shirts, even when brushed against velcro. I am sure I could make it pull if I wanted to, but during the normal uses that snag all of my other shirts, these have remained flat and presentable. No wrinkles, no shrinkage on low heat (I have not tried high.) No uncomfortable tags or seems. I prefer the perpetual non odor properties of wool, but this shirt is the better workhorse for me.

wicks well, dries fast

By:

This shirt slots into the same category as Patagonia's Capilene 2 - loose fabric that moves moisture really well, dries quickly, but seems less sturdy than whatever Patagonia uses for the Cap 1 line.

As to the shirt itself, I like the fit, the fabric feels comfortable against my skin. Like Cap 2 this shirt has the feeling that wearing it it is literally drier than bare skin. This shirt, with its aerated weave, is less protective against the sun than is Capilene 1, and as the air cools down any breeze gets right to you. But for those warm days where getting the sweat off your body is paramount this shirt is great.

Nice fitting, gentle on skin and cool. Slightly prefer the older style Wicked T but this is almost as good. Color is brighter

Not durable

By:
August 5, 2009

I wore the shirt once while hiking the Great Range trail in the Adirondacks. The shirt was extremely comfortable and wicked sweat away from the body. Very light weight...almost felt like I wasn't wearing a shirt.

However, after a few miles, the shirt started to fray really bad on the backside of the shirt and around the waist due to friction from the day pack I was wearing. The shirt did not meet my durability standards. It was looking pretty rough by the end of the day.

Thanks to backcountry.com, I was able to return the shirt. I'll probably buy the Patagonia Capilene 1 t-shirt instead. More durable.

Wicked sickles

By: Backcountry.com Employee

Going from merino wool layers back to synthetics like polyester is not something that's ideal for most people. The truth is you cannot get wool this light and this breathable. Air flows through this thing well enough to not stink all the time.
The fit of this shirt is longer than what competing brands have to offer in this category. I like tall tees and do not like feeling like a granola bum climber guy or looking like one of santa's helpers. This isn't by any means specified as a 'tall tee' though. I got the XXL in the cool grey color. It was long enough to not lift up to your belly button everytime you lift your arms and wasn't too wide, like when it's just short, fat and floppy jaloppy.
The first time I used this shirt was in Southern Utah and some of that red sand never came out of the cool grey. I wear the sand well though- I aint skeered!
