Mountain Hardwear Stimulus Jacket - Men's

We don't really know what to write about the Mountain Hardwear Men's Stimulus Jacket, except that we've never seen a fully welded, fully waterproof jacket this light. Things we said when we tried it on: “Holy crap that's light!” also, “I feel like I'm cheating Earth's gravitational field!” At an absurdly light six ounces, the Stimulus packs like a dream, stretches in all four directions, and keeps you dry and protected from the wind before disappearing back into its own pocket like magic. It even has 360-degree reflectivity, a neck cinch cord, and a dedicated music pocket for running. While we wouldn't bomb through a briar patch in it or sit in a snowdrift, we'd definitely take this wispy wonder anywhere we didn't want or need to haul a heavy jacket.

Bottom Line: Light doesn't cut it…how about superubermegawicked light?

super light and super tight!

I really love the jacket, but like other reviewers said, you should definately size up. i normally wear small but for this jacket, medium is still too snug when wore over a layer. I'm thinking I should have bought one with the hood.(I know they have one with the hood with same material) waterproof doesn't really mean anything if the jacket doesn't have the hood.

Watch the sizing!!

I got this jacket last night. In terms of fabric, it is unbelievable. Whisper thin and very cool looking - I love it. However, I put it on and thought it was going to cut off the circulation to my arms! I am 5'9" and about 165 lbs. in pretty decent shape. Usually a medium fits great on me - I am not even a "big medium". The medium in this jacket was way way off - too small. It seems like MH puts all the emphasis on advancing the fabric and has great success there, but then screws up the pieces with their quirky sizing. I am going to try a large, but I am not confident that some other aspect of the sizing won't be off kilter. Other than the sizing issue, this is a nice piece of gear!

A Trend-Setter

When you are not enjoying your winter-sports and return to Metropolis for trail runs, early morning jogs, or biking, keep your adventure-adknowledgement-status while wearing this high-tech jacket around town. The weight of this jacket is phenomenal - Simplicity is bliss! This incredibly light jacket can also perform as the perfect baselayer. Look for the other competitors to follow this trend. The smoke/pale corn/and azure colors will be available this season. I purchased this jacket in April '07 and will purchase another when the alternate colors are released. Buy it!

Wear it everywhere

Got this jacket for Christmas last year and wear it all the time. Fantastically light & small, so I rarely go anywhere without it (literally pack it in my briefcase year round when I'm at work, just for the odd day I'm cold). During the winter, I wear it xc-skiing or snowshoeing over a light base layer, and as long as I'm working hard, I stay nice and warm...on long runs in the fall, I throw it in the back pocket on my vest just in case. Can't recommend it enough!

indeed, size up

Okay, no lie, the lightest weight rain coat I've ever owned. It's bomber, and for that reason alone I would put up with a lot. However, I also usually move/climb comfortably in mediums of everything, but even a large was kinda tight in the pits. Especially if you want this to fit over anything I would go at least one size up. Otherwise, very very nice.

Incredibly Light, Full Feature Package

By: Backcountry.com Employee

Quite simply, this is the jacket I've been searching for. Most tech shells lack one of the following: light weight, fully welded seams (which deems it NOT waterproof) or pockets (NECESSARY). My Quark has it all!!!! Crazy light, full welding, pockets aplenty, and it's stretchy as all get-out. Love it. I'm 6 feet tall with long arms, and purchased the XL. It's a bit roomy and I suspect I could've gotten the large, but I dig the extra room for layering when it's cold.
