Mountain Hardwear Skyledge 3 Tent 3-Person 3-Season

The Mountain Hardwear Skyledge 3 Tent provides space for three campers at less weight than most two-person tents. Thanks to a third arch pole, this tent has steep walls which increase useable interior space and vestibule space at the same time. Mountain Hardwear's double-door, double-vestibule design allows easy access from both sides. No more trampling your two friends on the way to your sleeping bag. The Skyledge 3 Tent also includes several internal pockets to keep your lip balm and sunglasses from disappearing somewhere on the floor.

Bottom Line: Mountain Hardwear Skyledge 3 Tent—less weight, more space.

Reviews for the Skyledge 2 say that it's shorter than the 88" claimed length, making it a poor choice for 6'+ campers, any idea if the Skyledge 3 is the same in this regard?

When you say "(REI actually lists this as a two person tent)", please they actually carry this one and the 2.1 version. The 3P capacity is determined by the manufacturer, it is not up to the retailer to decide.

I just bought this tent a week ago. It is smaller than I expected. It says 38 sq. ft. floor space, but I would say usable floor space is about 30 sq. ft. at best. The floor curls up on the sides about 4 inches each and about 3 inches on the ends and it is a tight pitched tent so that space cannot be pressed to the ground and actually used for anything. By my measurements the seam to seam floor is 88" x 62" but the usable on the ground measurements are 82" x 54" and that is being generous. That gives real floor space of about 30 sq. ft. I am 5'9" 140# and I think this tent is perfect luxury for two of me (REI actually lists this as a two person tent). Considering the loft of a sleeping bag, I think anyone taller than six foot would wish they had a longer tent. I bought it to be a spacious 2 person tent for myself and my girlfriend and I think it will fit that use beautifully, however, wouldn't you know it, my first expected use turns out is likely me and two guys and I'm not sure I can really use it for that. It has thoughtful features and quality construction and a blind monkey could set it up in 5 min. I think I will be happy with this tent because my intended use was as a spacious 2 person tent, but if I truly was after a 3 person tent I likely would return it to the store. As far as performance, I'm confident it will be superb.

Spacious, but third-pole and vestibule design are poor

By:

This is a nice tent - it's spacious and light.

The third pole is a poor design, however - it ripped through the fly fairly quickly. And the vestibule isn't a very good shape, in my opinion - making it pretty small. Finally, when it's windy, the tent just doesn't feel that solid - frankly I think they went a big bit for a standard two pole X design.

Overall, I'm kind of unimpressed, especially considering MH's usual excellence with tents.

Awsome Tent

By:

Solid tent. Sets up quickly and easily. Slept in it
twice so far. Although I didnt get to test it in the
rain or wind, I totally trust this tent to handle almost
anything mother nature throws at it because of the
quality and design of this tent. I took my time and
checked out all the other 3 man tents, but this one
won we over because of the light weight. Weighs in
on my scale at 5.8 lbs trail weight. I think it makes
a very roomy 2 man tent which is how I'm going to
use it most of the time. Split the weight with the other
guy. I think it would be tight with 3 adult men but
you can do it with the floor view that mhw shows you.
As far as length goes, you wouldnt have a problem
with someone a little over 6ft. A bit pricey but you get
what you pay for. I'm sure this tent will last me many
years, so go for it, you wont regret it.
