Mountain Hardwear Revelation Jacket - Women's

You don’t want to deal with a bulky mid-layer on resort or backcountry days, which is where the Mountain Hardwear Women’s Revelation Jacket comes in handy. MicroClimate Zoning adds a soft fleece lining around the chest, front shoulders, and neck where your body needs warmth the most and lightens up on the arms so you have plenty of breathability and maneuverability. Mountain Hardwear made this jacket with a hybrid softshell and hard-shell construction so you get a mix of flexibility and durability. Batten-down the powder skirt and secure the zip-off hood during storms, and open the Underarm zips for airflow.

Bottom Line: A softshell/hard-shell hybrid.

I'm 5'5" and looking for a warm winter coat for Chicago weather. I need something that at a minimum covers by butt! Would this do it? Would you recommend it as an overall / everyday winter jacket for Chicago (i.e., teens and below in the dead of winter) Thanks!!

If I were you, I would consider the Mountain Hardwear Women's Wanderlust Parka, the Hardwear W's Sub Zero SL Parka, or the W's DownTown Coat for your chilly Chi-Town winter weather. The Revelation Jacket is more of a shell than an insulated piece. Hope this info helps!

The Revelation Jacket does not have a second zipper track for a zip in fleece. It is designed with room so that you can layer fleece or some other layer underneath. Hope this helps.

What does the back of the jacket look like? Is the brown softshell only around the bottom? If so why is the fleece only on the brown parts (bottom) and not on the blue parts? Is there a site with any images of the inside of the jacket too like on zappos?

The brown part of the jacket is the softshell part of the jacket and that is backed with fleece. The blue part is the hard shell and in strategic areas fleece has been welded there as well. We call it micro climate zoning. Also, the jacket is packed with ski features like a removable snow skirt, pass holder, and zip-off hood. Not sure where to find a pic of the back of the jacket on the web. Sorry. Good luck!

It doesn't seem like there's a heavy lining in this jacket (which I like) but is it good for freezing temperatures?

It would be good for freezing temperatures if you were to wear something layered underneath. The Revelation Jacket has a light fleece lining on the part of the jacket that is made with softshell (the brown part) and then the rest of the shell is a 3-layer conduit hardshell with out a fleece lining (the blue part). Hope this helps.

Do you know where this jacket is made? Is Mountain Hardwear taking on corporate social responsibility in the same way as companies like Patagonia?

This jacket is made in China by folks that we have been working with for many years. Many of Patagonia technical shells are made in China as well. Check out our "gives back" program on our website to see the more philanthropic side of Mountain Hardwear which is a key part of corporate social responsibility. This jacket is made with Conduit Softshell material as well as Conduit 3-layer hardshell material sewn together and then taped on the outside. All the materials are waterproof and you will find this jacket as waterproof as any jacket out there. Hope this helps!
