Mountain Hardwear Pinnacle Stretch Gaiter

Mountain Hardwear created the Pinnacle Stretch Gaiter to handle the harsh environments of high mountains. The uppers use waterproof breathable Conduit fabric while the lowers include the added durability of Cordura to protect from sharp crampon points and freshly tuned ski edges. These gaiters come to just below your knees, so you don’t have to risk filling your boots with snow when you’re breaking trail to the summit shortly after a storm.

Bottom Line: The last step in outfitting yourself for the big mountains.

I would like some opinions; how does these compare to the black diamond gaiters for general backcountry usage? which would be better suited?

Both Mountain Hardwear and Black Diamond make great gaiters that would work perfectly for general backcountry usage. I am obviously biased one way... but, if you want more specific comparisons between products more info and product names would really help. Also specific info regarding how you are going to use them would help a lot as well. One cool thing about our gaiters is that we have simplified the strap/buckle inter-face by getting rid of the post in the buckle and strap holes on the straps themselves making a relatively unbreakable system... pretty cool and unique to Mountain Hardwear. Hope this helps!

They would protect you from a snake bite, but they are definitely NOT snake bite proof! You can still puncture holes in these gaiters. I think leather is the only way to go against snakes, especially rattlers.

I love this guy. I always gave people who had gaiters a hard time. After wearing these guys after a fresh snow, I was sold. Kept snow out of boots and also kept my crampons from snagging my pants on those long climbs. A must have for all winter sports people.

i just got the mountain hardware trail gaitor high and they are a nice light gaitor but not quite what i was looking for. im looking for something thats 3-4 inches higher and i was wondering id the mountain hardware pinnacle stretch gaitor is that height. i will be using them all summer long for when i go up to the adirondack high peaks region. i have also looked at the OR Research Expedition Crocodile Gaiters, a little on the expensive side but they do have gor-tex.

The Expedition Crocodile Gaiters are AMAZING! But they will be a tad warm in the summer.

Friction. The buckle is designed without a pin because that is the one thing that broke the most on our gaiters. We wanted to come up with a new solution and getting rid of the pin and relying on friction was the best solution. I hope you find the same! Cheers.
