The Mountain Hardwear Monkey Woman Fleece Jacket offers fuzzy, plush warmth to backcountry-exploring female primates. This jacket’s high-loft Polartec ThermalPro Monkey Phur not only feels soft and silky, it compresses for easy packing, and it insulates and sheds light precipitation too. Because it’s fleece, this warm jacket also breathes, so you don’t have to put on or take off layers every few minutes during your hike.
Ahhh I saw people with this jacket and thought- I WANT ONE. Now that I have my own in the Green, I am sooo happy I bought it. It's so comfy, surprisingly warm, and just a fun jacket to wear out and about on the town or out on a climbing trip in NC. I was so pleased I got one for my mom for Christmas, in Blue. :) I'm 5'9 and curvy with long arms, but the Large fit well with room to layer. I haven't washed it yet, but I've heard from friends that it won't shrink so I'm confident it will continue to fit like this! The only, tiny, minor complaint I have is that I really wish it had thumb holes... but that may just be me.
I bought this jacket after stealing my boyfriend's Monkey Man jacket so many times that he made me get my own. It is incredibly soft and warm, and even does a fairly good job of blocking wind. I would say that the fit runs a tiny bit large, as I would normally wear a size 10-12 or large, but I got a medium and it fits perfectly, even with a little room to layer underneath if I have to. The stretchy material on the sleeves is heavenly and the pockets are wonderful for keeping my hands nice and warm. I can't say enough good things about this jacket!
Does anybody know if the winter white/khaki color is closer to a white or cream/khaki color? A girl in my class has one and hers doesn't look so bright white. The picture on here looks whiter though. Thanks.
Sarah. It's pretty white... but, coupled with the brown powerstretch panels it looks a little more creamy. It's possible that the woman in your class has a different vintage? Hope this helps.
i love this fleece and wear it all the time. it's the kind furry fabric that makes people want to pet me arm! super warm and i love the zip up pockets. the fit is good at slimming me even though the fleece is a thick fabric.
Hard to say. The Denali is made with a 300wt fleece that is pretty warm. The Monkey Woman Jacket is made with a Thermal Pro Fleece from Polartec... also very warm. Due to the higher loft of the Thermal Pro Fleece on the Monkey Woman Jacket I would have to say that the Monkey Woman is probably warmer. Especially, if layered under another jacket. My .02 Cheers!
I got this jacket six years ago and it is still killing it. I must say I have distressed it a little over that time, but I cannot recommend a better heavy-weight fleece. It's served me SO well alpine skiing, backcountry skiing, climbing, mountaineering, backpacking, and shooting around town. Kept me warm on the coldest days in the wasatch, the remarkables (NZ), the pacific northwest, and sierra nevadas (it's lasted that long to live through all those places). I wear a medium and this fits well underneath my shell and if necessary I can layer underneath on a cold day. Runs true to size and lasts forever.
I am looking for a jacket to wear when I am running around town this winter. I want something warm without the bulk. Is this a good jacket?? or do you have any other recommendations?
This would be a great jacket for the use you describe. A couple of other options would be the Mountain Hardwear Women's Nitrous Jacket (down insulated) or the Mountain Hardwear Woman's Compressor Jacket (primaloft insulated.) Both are lightly insulated with little bulk. Hope this helps!
This is a great jacket at a great price. But my daughter is 5'10" 143# and the arms are too short for her in size Medium. I am exchanging for a Large. Hope it will not be too big.
I have been wearing North Face jackets for years but this Mountain Hardwear jacket takes the cake. It feels like you are constantly surrounded by your favorite comfortable fleece blanket. I like that it is more fitted than other competitor's jackets. I will warn you, however because it is more fitted, I would recommend going a size up. I am 5 feet and normally wear an extra small and opted for a small instead. It fits perfect! I live in TN so our winters do not get too cold. It is perfect. You will fall in love!
