After finally retiring my Red Ledge wet weather jacket this new Mountain Hardwear gear has shown me what I have been missing by hanging on to outdated gear. The only thing I miss about my Red Ledge is the butt coverage. This new jacket only goes down to about my wait line leading to a guaranteed wet butt when it rains as the water slicks down the jacket. Besides that though, I have stayed bone dry while biking in downpour, and so far I have not gotten over heated outdoors while I am wearing it. The material does not have that "sticky" feeling when it gets wet. If I didn't like it so much I would of given 4 out of 5 because I have been spoiled in the past with wet butt protection.

I am sure this gear can survive K2, and Everest, but it should be known it can survive the film industry and a snow war in the 22 inches of snow in Brooklyn—both the jacket and the pants. They were a perfect purchase if you are looking for lightweight and fairly warm waterproof gear.

I live in Portland and this jacket gets a lot of use. It keeps me dry in the heaviest of downpours and during consistent all day rain. Not the most breathable jacket however.

I have enjoyed Mountain Hardware gear and clothing in the past but was disappointed with this jacket. It is plenty waterproof and it has stood up over the past year. But it is not very breathable and it lacks features that other jackets in this price range have. I find it feels clammy on a hike. There is no way to fasten it in the middle and have it mostly open. I wish it had snaps or a zipper that could zip up from the bottom. The hood has a brim which helps it stay open, but makes it difficult to stuff into a fanny pack for an afternoon hike. I expected more from Mountain Hardware.

This is an excellent light weight jacket. I use it for running, climbing, hiking, some skiing, etc. It is very light and compact yet very strong. From climbing and skiing some edges are slightly worn, but what can you expect. Great jacket!

This jacket is one of those rare items that far exceeded expectations. I used it hard for 2 weeks MTBing in CO. It actually does breathe! I got caught in wicked hail, and was worried about holes-nope! Also, I spent about 5 hours in a steady rain wandering around camp trying to forget about my tarp that now had rivers running through it. I didn't really think about it, but I stayed totally dry. That really says it all. For the price, this jacket cannot be beat. It is very light, nearly as small as my old coated nylon one. And it's got pit zips! Hurray! Kritios Boy is cool and dry!

I count my ounces since I am a lightweight backpacker. I was extremely disappointed that the ACTUAL weight was 15oz! NOT 11 oz as advertised! Otherwise the quality looked good.

Is what I heard from this hot chick. But more importantly, with taped seams and packability, this jacket is a must have if rain is on the outlook. And as an added bonus, the Epic is always on sale somewhere. A little plasticy when worn w/ just a T-shirt, but with pit zips and hand pockets that serve has ventilation as well—this jacket gets air.

This jacket packs down small to store, enabling you to take it almost anywhere unnoticed. I have used it in heavy rain and wind, and have stayed dry. I have a major problem staying cool in jackets like this, as I tend to heat up easily but this jacket breathes well enough to keep me relatively comfortable.

I have had the epic for one month now. I live in central Florida, activities include camp, kayak, bike, and improvisational jog. I recently adorned the epic during rain while setting up camp. The jacket sheds rain nicely, glad I ordered the XL (seems a bit smaller than TNF XL's), and "breathed" well with the exertion that accompanies camp setup. The periodic brew cool down helped. I wore the shelter this past weekend while on the bike. A feeder band from "Dennis" struck. The jacket kept me dry, kept the music source in the front pocket dry, the hood stayed put on my temple—those of you who live in the south know that breathability only goes so far, so yes, it does get clammy. I am partial to MH products owning some for five plus years with no problem. The jacket is a welcome addition to the outdoor stash and is but one of my favorite thing. Thank you.

Mountain Hardwear Epic has proved to be exactly what I wanted. I spent a long time looking at what jackets were on the market. I wanted my jacket to be lightweight for AR use. I feel the cold more than most and I wanted a jacket to act as a shell even when it’s not raining. But I needed the jacket to be well ventilated so I could regulate my temperature easily without having to stop moving. I wanted practical pockets big enough to hold a topo map, and a hood that protects my whole head, not just half of it. I also wanted it to be high visibility, for inner-city cycling in Auckland, NZ (not a cycle friendly city, yet). And I wanted all that at a price that wouldn't ruin my finances. I've used my Epic jacket a few times now and it has proved to be exactly what I was looking for. Most notably, I wore the jacket throughout an adventure race in crazy weather conditions; it couldn't make up its mind between rain, hail, sunshine, and winds gusting to 100kph. The jacket kept me dry and at a comfortable temperature from start to finish. I'm very pleased to own this jacket. It is an excellent piece of equipment.

The Epic jacket is probably best categorized as rain gear. I have used it for snowboarding and winter trail running. In both cases it builds up moisture quickly. Thus it is better suited for low activity precip protection. After only four times in the snow, the hood has already begun to 'wet out'. I love MH products, but this is a bit spendy for a mere rain jacket.

I've used the Epic Jacket for many trips to the North Cascades where the rain showers last for hours. The jacket has always kept me dry, and it’s well ventilated. The Epic is lightweight (less than 1lb) and doesn't take up much room in my pack. My only complaint with coat is that the zipper has gotten caught on the fabric a few times on the pit vent. Other than that, it's been an outstanding rain coat.

I recently took this jacket on a long bike ride in which there were sporadic desert thundershowers. It performed wonderfully repelling rain during the downpours and folding up inside one of its pockets when it was sunny. It was a warm day and breathed fairly well during a hard ride. It is a lightweight and compact jacket that I recommend taking along on any trip that has even the slightest chance of rain.
