Mountain Hardwear EV 2 Tent 2-Person 4-Season

Mountain Hardwear teamed up with Ed Viesturs to make the EV 2 Tent tough and light enough for any trip to any mountain in the world. Whether you’re bagging Everest or just going up Rainier, this single-wall tent has your back when the storm hits.

  • External pole clips to make pitching fast and easy
  • Multiple guy-line points increase stability in heavy crosswinds
  • Double-door entrance lets you get in without soaking everything in snow
  • Top and side vents decrease condensation
  • Waterproof breathable Conduit FR fly fabric handles the heaviest snow or even rain

Bottom Line: For the biggest hills on the planet.

I borrowed this tent from a friend to do a winter/spring expedition and I can't say anything bad about the endeavor. Not only did it keep us worm and dry in the spring storm we experienced, but having never previously set it up until I was up at 11,000 feet in the wind, it was still easy to figure out. Two of us had an easy time moving around inside, but all in all it was sturdy and functional in all respects.

I have used this tent and loved it on several climbs.once again people you have to use it in its application high altitude mountaineering.i see people write reviews on this tent on several sites saying it was to hot i guarantee they would'nt be complaining if they were on the top of mt hood in the middle of winter. i mean who buys a 640.00 4 season tent then heads to lake shasta for spring break anyways!!!!!

I can't decide between the EV2 and the Black Diamond (Bibler)

I can't decide between the EV2 and the Black Diamond (Bibler) Eldorado. Can anyone help?

Mountain hardwear is sealed at the factory. Bibler requires an exterior seam seal (provided with tent) after purchase. Bibler has several 2 person tents: Tempest, I-tent, Eldorado, Ahwahee, Fitzroy (3 person rated), that are 4 season rated. Best to check out which Bibler you like. Caution, the Mountain hardwear EV2 tent is not 48" wide for its entire length. It is 82" x 48" and then it necks down to 35" wide between 82" and 105". 48" wide is a tight squeeze for 2 people, but the interior space is great for storage. Bibler Eldorado is 87" x 51" for an extra 3" of width for 2 people. As far as I know both brands are great depending on what you want.

Great tent but needs a few things

The guy-out on the sides is too low--it allows the tent fabric where the MH label is to flap and be noisy. I also think that the tent should have a guy line on the rear and one on the front side too.

Very pricey. Non problems with condensation.

Will not stand up to a tree branch failing on the side of it though, lol

Mountain Hardwear EV2 Shelter

By:
July 22, 2009

Amazing design and quality, but you pay for it.. like 3 car payments. Unless you are attempting a winter summit, or plan on hanging it from a rock ledge, it is far too much tent. I have used the EV2 on a few winter summit attemps and it has performed very well. First, it packs down really small if you separate the poles. Set up is super easy, freestanding crosspole design. I have used it with both 1 and 2 people and it is capable, but 1 person and climbing gear is good for me (5' 10" 190lb). If you are into roomy tents, you may want to rethink the EV2. It is a purpose built tent with basically one purpose, getting out of the elements. The interior vestibule is ok, but you are forced to crawl over whatever gear you have stored. I have found storing your gear in the rear of the tent makes much more sense, using the "vestibule area" as headroom. The way that it packs down, and how little it weighs, i have no problem packing it as a solo shelter. You will get condensation (I dont care what anyone says), but its manageable. Entry and exit is easy, but you should make a habit of giving the door a few slaps before you unzip it (snow has a tendency to fall in). It is very sturdy and holds up to strong wind if guyed out properly (an anchor/deadman in each corner doesnt hurt). If its not going to be very cold, dont bring it. A great product if you learn how and when to use it.
