Whether you ski the resorts, backcountry, or a little of both, the fleece-lined, waterproof breathable Mountain Hardwear Men's Descent DT Jacket provides excellent weather protection. Mountain Hardwear welded high-loft fleece to this lightweight jacket's interior for warmth and comfort. When you hike off-piste or shred through powder, articulated sleeves allow you to move freely. A removable powder skirt has you covered when the snow is splendidly deep. Prevent your water from freezing and carry it next to your body in the Descent's interior bottle pocket. Ski or ride to the beat of your own drum—stash your MP3 in an internal pocket and jam away. When flakes fall, pull on your hood. Stow it away when the sun comes out and open underarm vents to dump heat. The micro-chamois-lined collar prevents chin chafing.
Bottom Line: New for this season, the Mountain Hardwear Descent DT Jacket protects you from the elements on both the descent and ascent.
When I first opened the package I was alarmed at how light it was, thought I made a mistake and got a windbreaker. Tried it on and really like the fit, it's a bit slimmer than most and that's exactly what I wanted. Got in 2 ski days with it and the jacket is great, base layer of light silk, fleece midweight top, and this jacket, with pit zips fully open = I was plenty warm at 25 deg F. The fleece mapping is well placed to make this jacket warm and lightweight. The MP3 pocket could be just a little bigger, my LG Chocolate barely fits in it but the headset cord passthrough is convenient. I haven't yet tried out the hood, I'm afraid I won't be able to get it neatly packed back into the collar so I'll wait until I really need to use it. This jacket is much lighter than any other I have, offers the same warmth, and the pit zips make it easy to adapt to climate changes without having to stop back at the lodge to shed/add layers. Worth every penny!
This is an excellent jacket. Just what I was looking for in a Ski Jacket. I have long arms (37 sleeve), and the XXL from Mountain Hardware is one of the few jackets I can count on to keep my wrists covered when my arms drive forward. The fuzzy lining added a few places on this jacket is great, and just right.
This jacket is rad. I dig the fleece mapping, and it helps to hold in just enough heat that all I wear under this is a mid weight baselayer when I'm skiing on Piste. It's a little heavy for backcountry use, but I'll still take it up hiking if its nuking.
